I love this lens...small, great focal range, very sharp!
I had the first version of this lens which I like very much -- and much to surprise, this much smaller, much lighter, but higher quality lens from Tamron is even better!....The photos are sharp across the entire focal range (better than the Nikon 18-200) with a much better focal range. It is significantly smaller than the original, and the new motor is fast. Most surprising, it even focuses faster in lower light situations. The new internal motor clearly works well. This can pretty much stay on your camera all the time. It's great for walk-around; it's light an non-intrusive; and the shots are sharp and clear. I love this lens.

I enjoy photography but am not a professional. I look forward to a professional review of this lens to examine the fine details, but regardless of how that turns out there is no doubt this will be the lens on my camera 90% of the time. The size, weight, range and build quality will simply allow me to take my camera more places and allow me to frame more pictures.I also own 20mm 1.8 and 50mm 1.8 primes and a normal zoom Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC. The 18-270mm PZD certainly won't replace the need for a good low-light indoor or portrait lens, but frankly I no longer see the need for the 17-50 VC. With recent DSLRs achieving good results (even dynamic range) at ISO3200 and even ISO6400 with raw post-processing, even a slower lens like this can get solid results (certainly up to 8x10). I do see a bit of barrel distortion when fully wide, but again that is fully corrected in post.I take all my photos in raw and run everything batch through DXO - this workflow yields...

Lens Cleaning Kit MAIN FEATURES World's first and greatest zoom ratio of 15X, covering 28-419mm 35mm-equivalent angle of view Going back to the basic concept of one lens covering everything from wide angle to telephoto, engineers at Tamron took up the difficult task of expanding the zoom range of Tamron's high power zoom lenses even further. Their unstinting efforts to extend the telephoto end beyond previous limits while retaining the wide-angle end at 18mm has borne fruit as an ultra high power zoom lens that is exclusively designed for DSLR cameras and boasts the greatest zoom range of 15X for the first time in the world. Tamron's original VC mechanism for effective shake-free hand-held photography Tamron's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism was built in the AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di VC (Model A20) for the first time. It demonstrated its powerful compensation effect employing a tri-axial system that is designed to let three coils drive a compensator lens electromagnetically via three steel balls. Since the compensator lens is supported on rolling steel balls with very low friction, follow-up performance is also enhanced, resulting in stabilized viewfinder images. Since the mechanism is designed to allow parallel shifting of the compensator lens solely by means of electrical control, the mechanical construction is simpler and more compact, so the lens can be kept as small and light as possible. Designing a high power, compact zoom lens with VC mechanism: Optical design optimization meets optimum power distribution In developing the long-range zoom lens, Tamron?s optical designers pursued the optimum distribution of power within the overall optical system based on the optical design know-how Tamron a... For the price and what it offers, one of the best lenses in its category
Customer Video Review Length:: 4:13 MinsTamron's new lens offers a 15X zoom range, the most you will find for a DSLR. But do you have to give up too much image quality as a result? I was looking for a lens for travel and for casual shots that could replace my need for both wide angle through the telephoto range and hopefully replace several other lenses that I typically have to bring with me.Overall, I'm very pleased with this new lens, it did better than I was expecting. The quality of the photos is almost on par as my (but of course not my 70-200 f/2.8) with a much more usable range for an everyday lens. I also tend to have back problems, so the less weight I carry on vacations, the better!A few negatives: the lens does not zoom smoothly through its whole range, particularly when zooming from wide to tele, and you only...

Product Description

With the advent of the latest 15X zoom lens from Tamron, the pioneer of high power zoom lenses, the high power zoom lens has steadily evolved from a 7.1X to a 10.7X to a 13.9X and now to the world's largest zoom ratio of 15X by combining advanced high power zoom design technologies accumulated by Tamron since 1992. The lens covers an angle of view equivalent to that of a 28mm wideangle to a 419mm ultra telephoto with just one lens, letting the user capture once-in-the-lifetime images of panoramic landscape images or close-up pictures of children smiling, without having to get too close to the subject and without having to change lenses. A technical marvel
I've had mine for three weeks now and have taken several hundred pictures under a wide range of conditions. I read all the reviews here and on other sites, both for Canon and Nikon mounts before I made a purchase. I hope to compare and contrast my experiences with what I've read here and on other review sites. My camera body is a Canon XTi.I read some reviews that complained of chromatic aberration (CA). Yes, there is some at the edges, at some focal lengths and apertures. If you look at the test results ([...]) you will see that the lens performs excellently at around f-6.7 to f-8. Almost no CA and excellent sharpness. This lens simply wants to run best at about f-8. So, I've taken to using my camera in Av mode at f-8 when I'm using this lens. Excellent results with no visible CA.I read some reviews that complained of 'softness' of the images in some situations. This is attributable to two issues. One is that if you let the camera program mode choose an...

Good walk around lens
Like the previous reviewer, Y. Fukunaga, I too bought this lens last week and I am also using it on a Nikon D300. I agree with just everything in the previous review, so I will not repeat it again. The reason the zoom ring doesn't move smoothly between 70 and 150 mm is to prevent lens creep, a notorious problem with the Nikkor 18-200 and that is one of the main reasons I did not get that lens. The Tamron got a very good review in the October issue of "Popular Photography and Imaging" and I tend to believe the reviews I read in that magazine. I have also had very good experiences with the Tamron 90mm macro and Tamron customer service which is well known for being responsive and efficient.I bought this lens because I wanted a good walk around lens. I do a lot of walking and often don't feel like carrying a bag and changing lenses. Also I wanted a all-in-one lens to use when traveling. I was pleasantly surprised by the sharpness of the lens at both at wide 18mm and tele...

Finally an "all in one lens"??? YES, BUT......
....Versatility never comes without cost:GENERAL+ First impression when mounted to my t2i was "wow". I could hardly believe how small this thing really is considering it's zoom range! It's also very light (only a tiny little bit heavier than a Tamron 17-50 2.8!) You can carry it around easily and my t2i felt very well balanced with it. - A good start+ the lens comes with a lens hood (you see Canon!?) and with a 5 years warranty. That's quite a package, even though the lens hood (being suitable for all offered focal lengths) cannot really help when you are zoomed in to the max.BUILT QUALITY+- the lens is manufactured in China. Quality appearance is ok, but nothing to rave aboutIMAGE QUALITYResolution+- considering it's enormous range, I was surprised how sharp this lens can get. Resolution is not the reason why I finally opted against the product. It never really gets razor sharp, but at least at most focal...

Great lens
I have been using this lens for several months on my Nikon D40. A wonderful lens! The lens is relatively light in weight (especially when compared to the newer Tamron 28-300 VR lens that my wife has on her Nikon) making taking photos a real joy. The extended zoom range makes this a great general purpose lens..i.e for most situations the only lens you will need; especially useful when traveling. The image quality has been excellent, although at extreme zoom against a very light background I occasionally note some darkening around the edges (not unexpected). No lens is perfect, but on a features for the money basis, this one is not far off.

Tamron 18-250mm AutoFocus for Nikon D40
Great lens for the price. The auto focus isn't quite as fast as the original Nikor lens that came with the camera, but much faster than I could do manually. So far can't tell a difference in picture quality either. For all-around picture taking this lens makes all my others obsolete.

Best work around lens at a very good price!
The copy that I got is very sharp and the image quality is just great. I must say I am very happy with this lens. This lens is best paired with D90 to compensate the lack of VC. But of course, any lower model will also produce good results. At 250mm the image is quite soft but for me it is still usable. You will hardly notice this softness when you print it.I got my lens @ Photoworld at a very good price ($299.00). What a deal! Thanks Amazon and Photoworld!
