Well folks,just got mine yesterday and I love it....now I am a big guy and have no size or weight issues with this.I had no complaints with my blade so far,no extra blade work needed on mine.I will agree mostly with the above review by J.HULL except for a few points..#1 - Carrying...I see no issue with clipping this on my pants and using it as a main carry piece.#2 - The safety...I totally disagree here,this is a very solid and easy to manage safety,just like on a pistol easy to access and I see no way it could be set to "fire" ( safety off ) while being stored clipped to pants or in a pocket.#3 - Release switch - This is not a flimsy / light switch,it needs pressure to open it properly,I admit when I first tried it the blade only popped 3/4 way out,but once realizing the pressure needed it opens like a $200 gerber,no wimpy finger need apply....and yes the release which does resemble a front sight on a gun...what do ya...

SWMP4L review
This I an excelent knife, my only complaint is that it is kind of bulky, but it helps add to the strength of the knife itself, it's a solid knife, the blade will not give. Smith and Wesson makes a great product.

Good Knife, Hard to Open
Carry Clip: 5/5 - strong enough to stay attached to whatever, but not so strong you have to fight to pull it off.Safety: 3.5/5 - Sort of slides around when the knife is open, but it's solid when closed.Glass Breaker: 5/5 - works fineGrip: 4/5 - Pretty good, feels like it should have an extra finger though.Push Button: 4/5 - Worked great for the first week, but now it takes A LOT of force to open.Blade: 4.5/5 - Comes sharp, stays sharp.OVERALL: 4/5 - Nice knife, I'd definitely recommend it.

fastest/easiest opening knife out there
The blade is very sharp, and strong. I have been pretty ruff with this thing and the edge hasn't gotten a knick in it that required enough work to remove to say so. The opening mechanism on this knife is about as close to an automatic as you can get. Just push down on the lever and it flicks open or with a flick of the thumb on the stud. It opens very fast. Faster than any of the SOG's that I have(Flash, Twitch, Trident, Pentagon Elite). The size is perfect for one hand operation, open and close it in less than 2 seconds. It is very well made and quite substantial, being heavier than many other knives that I have which lends well to the glass breaking stud on the end. I prefer the lever lock mechanism on this knife to other systems as it is easier to close one handed requiring less and more natural movements. I also have the tanto blade version of this knife and it is top knotch as well. These knives are worth substantially more than their asking price, in design, quality,...

Awesome knife!
To start, I would like to say this is a fine peice of sharpened metal. I mean, EXTREMELY, sharp. Now, I have only had it for a little while, so I'm not sure on how well it will stay sharp over time or how well it keeps up, but straight out of the box, it is fantastic.Pros:Very Sharpserrated blade for those that want one"Open Assist", but dont cut yourself like I didHas a lock, so it wont open on accident and stab your legGrip is awesomeCool rugged lookCons:Very Heavy, if you cant cut someone with it (if you had to) you can always throw it at them!

Very pleased
I bought this knife roughly a month ago, and I can say with some confidence that this is one of the best knives u can get out there when balancing price and quality. This knife should cost over a hundred, maybe more. Incredibly sturdy, i am very rough with this blade and handle, and thee only negative effect so far is that the black has scratched on the edge of the blade itself. Expected. and the scratcing is minimal. Remains as sharp as the day i bought it. ive dropped this thing tens of feet on to stone, metal, wood, and it remains perfectly unharmed. aside from functionality, it simply looks elegant. Almost all black, tastefully curved, it would be great for a collector even. Very easy to use, becomes second nature after a bit of use. Buy this, u will not be disappointed.

cool knife
I cant say I know much about knifes, but I can say that i'm happy with this purchase. The knife is somewhat larger, and more then that, heavier then expected. The only way i'de like it better is if it was about 4" long instead of 5". On the other hand if it was only 4" common sense says the glass breaker wouldn't be worth having on there because it may be almost covered by your palm if you have larger hands like me, so again.. I told you I know nothing. Its heavy and the real deal, well made, a lot of quality. the safety works like it should and easily flips open either of two methods. The clip already scratched to hell exposing silver colored scratches but thats what I get for taking it on a construction site with me. In my no nothing opinion it made it look cooler. If your a picky serious knife guy then i recommend reading some other input for sure, if your like me and wanted a cool, functional, WELL built, very usefull "toy", that you would carry w/ you about half the time...

Great knife
I bought this knife as a gift for my friend and was quite impressed with it. I already own several S&W knives and a firearm, so you could consider me a collector, and this piece is no less in quality than the rest of their products. I will mention however if you tried this at a knife store, the release button for the blade is very firm compared to the store's model, obviously the one at the store is used frequently and gets easier to open, but it is quite firm. Also, like all S&W knives it comes razor sharp, be warned, some knives are 'sharp' and others will split hairs.I should note that the shipping on this item... takes several weeks, I have no clue why when it shows as 'in stock'. I ordered it as a birthday gift, and it wasnt even going to ship till two weeks after his birthday. Honestly I've bought other things that said 'in stock' and it shipped next day, so....It's a great knife, but if you can buy at a local store, do so. I had to buy online because no one...

1. sharp blade sharp enought to shave with2. Broke the blade lock in 3 days so the knife keeps opening in my pocket and in my backpack and cut myself once because of this3. the feel of the grip on the knife fits alright iv had better and worse cant really complain about it4. this is a very cool looking knife its good for people who want something nice to look at5. the blade is still sharp after me having it for a couple weeks which is very surprising since i beat the crap out of my knifes6. overall a very good knife

Serious Knife
With the 2nd Generation MAGIC Assist Open, this is as close to a switchblade that a knife can be. Knife comes razor sharp right out of the box. The glass breaker at the end of the knife actually works. This is a knife for a true enthusiast. The look and feel is provides great confidence in the abilities of the knife. I highly recommend this is anyone who is of age to own it.

Acceptable
I have been carrying this knife on a daily basis for about 3 months, and at first I was very impressed. It had a solid feel, felt good in my hand, and was decently sharp. By the time I write this, The assisted opening switch has completely broken. I took apart the knife to examine it, which was an overly difficult task, and discovered that the switch had snapped on the inside. The "safety" lock on the side is also rather hit or miss, as it was often difficult to tell if it was really locked or if the switch was just up. It also just doesn't hold an edge like I would like it to.Overall, This is a decent knife for the price, but I would not consider it to be durable enough to be an everyday carry.

S&W Magic knife
The knife has a very solid construction. It is real easy to open with thumb post or the pull down button on top. The safety slide button is good for preventing injury from accidental opening in the pocket.

Just OK
This is a well made Knife with Some Flaws. The blade is sharp... cuts without a problem. The Knife is on the heavy side also. My biggest complaint is the safety is defeatable. I can very eazly get the knife too spring open with the safety on. It would be hard too do this accidently while in a pocket but it can still happen. The shipping on the knife was horried! My first one arrived broken... Could not get the blade too close. Could not return it too Amazon. Bought a 2nd from a local retailer. Its ok So it only gets 3 Stars!

Very Good Knife
I received this knife a couple of weeks ago. It is heavy at 6+ ounces but that adds to the solid feel of the knife. I love the way it feels in my hand. Contours, blade placement and design. It is made of 4034 Steel. Not great but decent Chromium, Carbon, Manganese mix steel. The blade has very little play. You will have to spend a lot more money to get a folder with less. The safety is a little weak and can be forced open with it engaged but not easily. The actuator and spring assist are fluid and comfortable for anyone to open. For the money this is a home run of a knife.I also own the 4 series. I can not decide which I like better overall. The 4 is heavier but the same great feel. The 5 has an open spine allowing for easier cleaning so that is what I carry around most.

great shipping. great product
I just got this knife in the mail and first off, the shipping was crazy fast i ordered it monday and got it in my hand on thursday.. so right when i opened the package the knife was out of its manufacturers box just floppin around inside the mailing box, no bubble wrap or anything, "probably could have taken a little bit more care in the shipping" but thank god nothing was wrong with the knife its self.. although the first 20-30 times opening the knife (since ive had it) it feels really stiff when opening the knife it doesnt just POP open like you imagine but im guessing that will change over the next few days of opening and closing this knife during use. nice solid feel to the knife its fairly heavy which is good for me as that shouts quality manufacturing and durability. blade was fairly sharp out of the box.. or well, however i got it.. but it wont need sharpening at first. so far im impressed with the knife and overall purchase, i would recommend for price and quality.
