Solid wood construction with good quality castors. However, the manufacturer states that the castors are designed for carpeted floors (not hard surfaces like wood or linoleum). We put an area rug down on our hardwood floor and may put an office chair clear plastic pad on top for easy rolling. The chair is easy to mount on it's pedestal with only two simple parts and no tools required. The seat is extra wide and deep for bulky bottom seating. The upholstery is good and the seating is very supportive, but some may need an auxiliary seat pillow which could be easily added. We recommend this chair, but the best way to choose one would be to sit in a whole showroom of chairs before you buy one. This chair is worth the extra cost compared to the local office supply chain office chair if you need a "furniture look".
