Heathy Organic Crib Matress and made in USA to boot!
It has been a challenge finding products for our baby girl that are organic and made in the USA. Most "certified organic" clothing I found is made in China and sorry to say this, but I have my doubts about the regulations when it comes to organic and China.I did not think I was going to find a crib mattress that fit my criteria, organic and made in the USA. Until I found this one.The mattress itself is extremely well made, easy to clean and very durable. I feel that we have made the best choice we could when it comes to our girl's crib mattress. I know that it is not an inexpensive item, however after reading about the materials used in and on mattresses, we decided that our girl is worth it!There is a version with less coils for less money as well, however I wanted to get the firmest one possible (first time mom ya know). The mattress fit our crib perfectly, looks wonderful and we are very happy with it.Update July 19, 2010...

the best option available
My four-month-old has slept soundly on this mattress from day one. More than that, though, I have slept soundly knowing that she is spending the majority of her first year of life sleeping on what is an incredibly well-researched and well-worth-it crib mattress.I spent hours scouring the internet to find the best genuinely organic crib mattress for the best price. I found that many do not meet fire safety standards, while others claim to be organic but still have chemicals like boric acid sprinkled inside. This mattress meets all industry standards while also being completely safe for your little one. Healthy and authentically organic
My son was born 4 weeks early with respiratory distress syndrome. I have asthma and allergies to some cats, but not my cat. With these risk factors and the fact that more and more children have asthma these days we decided to invest our small income in a quality organic mattress. We researched what exactly are the toxins in a typical mattress. After reading about the ingredients and the toxins inhaled, I wanted an organic mattress for us as parents! Instead we just made sure that the surface our son would spend so many hours on is the safest possible to do the most important work possible; breathe. I feel reassured every time I lay him in his crib, that we made a significant effort to raise him in a healthy environment even though we can't afford to buy everthing organic.

seriously fabulous crib mattress
My daughter slept better on this mattress the very first time that we put her down on it (and that's saying something, since she didn't want to sleep anywhere else but between us on our king size bed). It's been about 11 months since then, and she sleeps fabulously on this mattress. I can't recommend it highly enough.I appreciate that it's organic - and that there are no harmful chemicals - and that it is still fire-resistant.I think the coil system is far more comfortable than the foam (which she had before) - and it still provides extremely firm support.It's pricey, yes, but the return to civilized life (a.k.a. when she started sleeping through the night) was worth just about any price.I'm now about to buy a second one for my next baby!

Received replacement.... much better now!
I had this mattress months before my baby arrived... looked great, chemical free, organic... loved it.Well, after only 3 months of my little guy sleeping on it, the mattress wasn't feeling or looking firm anymore. I even had to position my baby in different spots to try and find him a flat spot to sleep on. Unacceptable safety wise (and $$$ wise).So, I emailed Naturepedic and described what was occurring, and they set up to ship me a new mattress immediately! The mattress arrived within days, and it was much more firm than my previously purchased one was when it was new! My son is now 16 months and the mattress is holding up great!Get this mattress for the chemical-free factor, the organic factor, and the customer service!!!

Excellent mattress
I really like how it is light and 2 sided, and of course, organic and made in the USA. Because there is both a toddler and infant side, I know this mattress will last for years to come. Plus, it is light so it will be easy for me to change the sheets, and I feel comfortable with my baby spending so much time in it, being organic and made in the USA. Definitely worth the money.

Excellent Quality - Sizing Small
This is an excellent mattress of quality workmanship and worth the expense. It's very light and managable; however, it utilizes an unstructured framework that runs about an inch small in length. The shortness created a gap on the ends that was too wide for our standard-sized crib (28 wide by 52 1/4 long). We exchanged it for the boxspring 252 model, which seems to run a little bigger and fits tightly all the way around.

No complaints! Happy Mom!
After looking around for a safer alternative to a mattress that our daughter would be sleeping on, we decided to splurge and get this mattress from Naturepedic.It arrived before the estimated shipping date which was a nice surprise. It was also very well packaged (a giant cardboard box that fit around the whole mattress).After taking the mattress out of the plastic, there was no smell whatsoever. What a nice change! I didn't have to air it out. I just placed it in the crib and put the crib sheet on.Our baby has been sleeping in on this mattress for 3 months now and she has not complained at all. She sleeps 9 hrs + at night and naps on it during the day as well. I've read that some people said that the mattress was hard and that they thought it was too hard for their baby. Great mattress, but heavy
My son has been sleeping on this for a few months now. I really like the mattress. Good quality. I did expect it to be heavier than the traditional mattress we had originally purchased. But it is REALLY heavy. He has a convertible crib, so I know we'll use this mattress for a few years. But I cringe when he wets during the night and I need to change. Not fun in the wee hours of the morning. But given the trade off for an organic mattress (and yes, they spend a lot of hours sleeping so I like knowing it's better for him), I don't mind as much. But be aware that it is heavy.

Fantastic Mattress!
I purchased this mattress for my son three months ago when he transitioned from a bassinet to a crib, and he is seven and a half months old now. My significant other had a daughter in his previous marriage who died of SIDS when she was 7 months old, and you can bet that I read all the research and looked at lots (and I mean LOTS) of crib mattresses before making the decision to buy this one.The first thing I noticed about this mattress when I opened it....no chemical-y smell. You can tell that the mattress is extremely well-made and will last for a long, long time. I wanted the dual firmness mattress so that my son can use it as a toddler bed when he is older. The firm side is labeled, so you know which side is which.In the three months we've had this mattress, my son has not had any problems with getting a peaceful and good night's sleep on it. Very Nice Matress
I'm not sure how this compared to other mattresses that are available for cribs because this was my first choice, but I was pleased that when we opened the packaging there was no smell of plastic. The dual sides make me happy that it will last a long time. When my daughter went from her co-sleeper to the crib with this mattress it was a smooth transition and I assume that it is because the mattress is comfortable.

Worth the money--this one has it all!
This mattress has all the features I was looking for: organic cotton, no wool (I'm vegan), no latex (I'm allergic), waterproof without using lots of chemicals, and made in the USA. Aside from the hefty, hefty price tag (the mattress cost more than our crib! ), this mattress is a winner. I consider it a good investment in the health and safety of our baby, who will be spending a huge portion of his life on this mattress. And hopefully the quality will ensure that it lasts a long time. Buying a 4-in-1 crib should make it worth the price, since we can use this mattress when we convert the crib to a toddler bed. I checked the Naturepedic website to compare features, and I price-shopped, and these never seem to go on sale or have discounts, so be prepared.

Fantastic!
Wanting only top quality items for our infant, we carefully reviewed all available research about mattresses available. The chemicals put into commercial mattresses are shocking, and they can off-gas for years. Considering the amount of time a baby/young child spends sleeping, it's not a risk worth taking.This mattress is top quality, appears as such with excellent stitching and materials, is comfortable, durable (no "mattress pad" needed), wipes off easily with mild soap and water, and is an excellent investment in the health of our baby. It fits a standard size crib snuggly (no gaps). The cost is MUCH higher than commercially made crib mattresses, but an investment in health, and we will have it for many years as he moves from crib to toddler bed.
