Great product, easy welding!
This half coupling was a very easy part to weld on! I used a TIG welding process and had fantastic results. When I ordered this, I was rather uncomfortable with the label "Cast pipe fitting" that they put on the product title. . . all my previous attempts to weld cast metal (malleable iron) has been awful!!! This coupling doesn't weld like any casting I've worked with: It acts like forged stainless steel. I assume you can MIG or stick it, but I prefer the precision and control TIG offers. The threads are really crisp and despite being made in China, they turned out a great quality part. It's non-magnetic so I'm fairly confident they used reasonable quality stainless. When welding it I didn't find any porosity, contaminate, or other nasty surprises. If you buy this, one word of advice. Check the threads and figure out which end is which. It's tapered and if you weld it on backwards . . . you're sunk!! I must have checked each fitting 8+ times to verify and...

Product Description
The Merit Brass half coupling is a class 150 stainless steel 304 cast pipe fitting with female National Pipe Taper (NPT) threads on one end and a plain end on the other for connecting and extending different types of pipes. It has NPT threads on one end for creating a tighter seal than straight threads and an unthreaded end on the other for welding to pipes. Made of stainless steel 304, the lower carbon content of this half coupling minimizes harmful carbide precipitation during welding, ensuring higher corrosion resistance than 302 grade steel. This class 150 fitting meets standards ANSI B1.20.1 and ISO 49 for quality assurance. Class is a standard relating to tolerance, construction, dimension, and wall thickness, but it is not a direct measurement of maximum working pressure.
Pipe fittings are components used for connecting, terminating, controlling flow, and changing the direction of piping in many different industries. When purchasing pipe fittings, consider the application, as this will affect material type, shape, size and required durability. Fittings are available threaded or unthreaded, in many shapes, styles, sizes, and schedules (pipe wall thickness).
Merit Brass manufactures pipe nipples following ISO 9001 standards for quality assurance. Family-owned since 1937, the company is based in Cleveland, OH. Merit Brass distributes pipe fittings to the United States and Canada.
