Description:
This study characterizes the compositions of two biodiesel vapors, soy biodiesel and waste cooking oil biodiesel, to provide a comprehensive understanding of biodiesels. Vapor phases were sampled by purging oil vapors through thermal desorption tubes which were then analyzed by the thermal desorption/GC/MS system. The results show that the compounds of biodiesel vapors can be divided into four groups. They include methyl esters (the main biodiesel components), oxygenated chemicals, alkanes and alkenes, and aromatics. The first two chemical groups are only found in biodiesel vapors, not in the diesel vapor emissions. The percentages of mean concentrations for methyl esters, oxygenated chemicals, alkanes and alkenes, and aromatics are 66.1%, 22.8%, 4.8% and 6.4%, respectively for soy biodiesel, and 35.8%, 35.9%, 27.9% and 0.3%, respectively for waste cooking oil biodiesel at a temperature of 25+/-2^oC. These results show that biodiesels have fewer chemicals and lower concentrations in vapor phase than petroleum diesel, and the total emission rates are between one-sixteenth and one-sixth of that of diesel emission, corresponding to fuel evaporative emissions of loading losses of between 106@mgl^-^1 and 283@mgl^-^1. Although diesels generate more vapor phase emissions, biodiesels still generate considerable amount of vapor emissions, particularly the emissions from methyl esters and oxygenated chemicals. These two chemical groups are more reactive than alkanes and aromatics. Therefore, speciation and quantification of biodiesel vapor phases are important. Top to learn more

Product Description

Biomass like filamentous algae, waste cooking oil and fish byproducts are considered as suitable materials for biodiesel production due to its readily-availability and cost effective. The studies were conducted to investigate the optimum conditions for biodiesel production using alkaline transesterification bioprocess in combination with methanol, ethanol and 1-butanol. Molar ratio of alcohol to oil (3:1, 6:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4) and type of catalyst were selected to compare biodiesel fuel produced from algae, waste cooking oil and fish byproducts. The biodiesel was of good quality obtained from waste corn cooking oil and fish byproducts implemented in the engine at 2000 rpm for 2 hours and reduced fuel consumption, engine emission like HC, NOx and CO. The highest biodiesel yield was obtained using 1:3 volumetric oil-to-methanol ratio at 1% heterogenous mixture of catalysts compared to homogenous catalyst. The fatty acid methyl ester, viscosity, total acid number and metal (Pb, Na, Ca, Mg, Cu. Fe) content were under ASTM standard. Biodiesel obtained from algae, waste cooking oil and fish byroducts was of ASTM standard and could be used as a source of diesel fuel in diesel engine. Top to learn more

questionable
The first time i used this, it worked well. Not fast, as has been stated here, but it did a nice job. The problem i ran into is storage, i think. I stored it on its side, and after several months of non use, it wouldnt work. Oil had seeped into the battery compartment, and the batteries were coated. They were still good, and after cleaning them and the compartment as best i could, it still wouldnt work. I will buy another one, but i think i will store it upright. Maybe this will keep the oil out of the batteries.

Very well written
As with all of Bruce Fife's books, his writing style is always easy to understand. This is a great book to read now that manufacturers are looking to replace all the trans fats in our food supply and one of the options they are turning to is palm oil.For people who are still afraid of saturated fats, this book will relieve all your fears. Its amazing what all palm oil (and coconut oil) can do for us health wise. This is a must read, along with Bruce's, "the coconut oil cure".And as always, there are recipes at the end of the book. I have always loved the recipes!I wish more people were aware of the health benefits of these 2 oils. I will be adding palm oil to my kitchen from here on out.Thank you Bruce for yet another well written and imformative book!
