Recovering from knee surgery, this is exactly what I needed for our icy NYC winter this year, so I bought a second one.
I had reconstructive knee surgery (ACL replacement et al) on December 6, 2010 after being hit by a car in a crosswalk, and about 20 days later we had twenty inches of snow here in New York City, the first of several storms of snow and freezing rain that would make my life very difficult. I had to go and shovel out my car on my horribly painful leg, and my crutches were completely useless--downright dangerous--for getting to and from my physical therapy appointments as well as out for groceries and such, so in the worst of it I simply left them at home in the interest of safety. The city had done next to nothing about clearing up the roads--didn't even plow--on all but the main streets outside of Manhattan, yet disabled people like me still had to get to the store, the laundromat, and in my case physical therapy. We couldn't even get food or packages delivered for about a week, it was that bad. Being a lifetime athlete, including cycling (my main thing), hiking, alpine...

Bought this for my husband for Christmas. He loves it. We live on some hilly property and he uses it to walk around it to see what plants are blooming, etc. If it is getting dark the light works great so we can see the trail. I am considering getting one for me.

Worth the money
I own the 'Cold Steel' African Walking Stick and was so impressed with it that I finally broke down and decided to buy the Blackthorn and add it to my collection. So far I'm in love with it. The stick is solid state and easy to carry. The knobbed handle has a peculiar shaped lip recess where the faux wooden top attaches to the shaft but this allows for one to comfortably wrap his fingers around it and maintain a firm grip. I find the stick attractive and only when examined up close can one tell it is not real wood. As soon as the stick arrived, I went to the local drug store and bought a 1" rubber cane tip which fit perfectly. I then took the stick with me for a 10 mile test walk. I wear fingerless, padded gloves when walking and noted no discomfort to the palm or wrist from the stick while using it for weight bearing. It was light enough to carry tucked under my arm as well. The stick seemed well capable of being used as a defense tool...

Great Walking Stick
I had concerns that this stick might look too plastic, but actually you have to get really close to it to identify it as a replica. It looks very much like my authentic Blackthorn stick from all but a very close distance. This is a very sturdy walking stick. I am 6'2" and 275 lbs. and this stick is plenty sturdy enough for me. It draws a lot of looks. I feel confident that it could be used as an efffective club should the need arise.

Good companion walking stick, modern version of an old design
I had seen the African Walking Stick/Knobkerrie in the Cold Steel catalog and was struck by the familiar design. Despite the dearth of reviews, I put it on the Christmas wish list. And here it is Christmas day and I have one in my hand. (Makes it a bit hard to type...) I have a vintage African walking stick, purchased at auction, that has been my companion on many walks over the years. It has held up well, but the tip now shows some wear and there are chunks missing out of the knob (perhaps from contact with another "knob", long before I had it). I wanted a "workhorse" version of the original, one I could bash up and thus save the antique from further distress. The two sticks are beside me now, for comparison. The Cold Steel version is about 2 inches shorter and half again as thick in the shaft as the wooden one; the knobs are about the same size, though the burl head on my wooden one is more oval than round. I've just put them on a scale -- the polypropylene...

Needs a little work on the texture.
Okay, I'll be honest. I was hoping for something a little closer to a wood-grain feel, but, Cold Steel DOES state that this is a high-impact injected plastic. So, it is what it is. It is a good walking-stick (although the tip could use a little more graded surface, it tends to slip on slick surfaces) and, well, to be honest, it could be used in a pinch as pretty serious club. So, all in all, I'm satisfied with my purchase.

very good, not great
First,I am pleased with this stick. Just a few things that you might want to know. 1, you need a rubber end for the tip. it can and will slide on hard or wet surfaces. 2,the ball end is a bit on the large side,baseball size, easy enough to handle if the have large hands but smaller hands not so much. 3, this isn't a light weight, you may want something lighter if your going on an all day walk. All that being said I still really like this cane. I feel like I could stop a bear in its tracks using it if I had to. OK! at least a big dog/mugger.

Nice
This is a very nice stick. I am only 5'1" tall and could get one to fit me. There is a very nice floral design, cut into it.. nice and simple. The top of the stick is smooth so it is easy to rest against it. The leather handle is just about the right length to use to prevent grip problems. I haven't had to use the metal point on the end but I am glad to know it is there. The rubber tip has not budged at all.

Love my walking stick
The stick is fine, but it does not have the wrist rope that goes with it so it is hard to hold without dropping. I contacted the seller and they said it is Amazon's problem and would not deal with it. I do a lot of shopping on Amazon and this is my first problem. It might stop me from shopping on Amazon now that I know if something goes wrong, it is too bad. All I want is a wrist rope to go in the holes that are made for it. How do I get help? No one seems to want to help. Thank goodness I didn't order my next order on the list - I think I will go somewhere else. Update: The seller (Hobbytoolsupply) fixed my problem 100%. I will always order items from them if they are the seller. They stand by their products and are very nice to deal with.

I love it.
I am six feet tall woman and I was afraid that it would be too short for me. I got them the other day (i got three) and they are perfect. The hiking poles are light and very cute, I got them for myself and my 2 nieces for camping. We are very happy with the product.

Really great!
My dad needs to use an orthopaedic walking stick/cane because of injuries sustained to his leg in a car accident 40 years ago. I bought him two of these canes for Christmas - they are great! The hand grip is extremely comfortable and the cane is so convenient when he has to go to meetings etc... he doesn't have to walk in with it, just fold it up and put it in his briefcase! Great cane with wonderful handle and price
This handy cane folds to a mere 12 inches, supports up to 250 pounds and weighs only 12 ounces. Some of you may scoff at the cane's plastic handle but, believe me, it's very comfortable and doesn't show scratches. If you scratch a wooden-handled cane, the lighter wood shows through - ugly. I also have foam-handled canes and they're nice but when it rains the handle gets squishy. The cane is adjustable from 33 to 37 inches in height. It's a shame that someone (who doesn't own the cane) gave it one star because the height wasn't in the description - that is not the cane's fault! My other canes were more expensive but I like this one best!

This is my first cane so I cannot compare it against other canes. I'll just provide some information that's not listed. This folding cane adjusts from 33" to 37 1/2". It disconnects into four sections with the adjustable section on the thickest part at the top. There are five holes facing the rear of the cane located on the top adjustable portion. The length can easily be adjusted by pressing a small 1/4" spring-pressured button in to release it from its position and move it to another position. The handle is made of hard plastic. The contour is nice as it nicely fits under the hand. The tip portion of the cane that comes in contact with the ground is a rubber material. The cane is light; I compared it against some canned foods from 14 to 16 ounces, and I would guess it is in that range towards the lower weight. The "attractive carrying case" is just a thin plastic, see-through pouch. Color is medium bronze. Model number is 1316BZ. Note that there should be...
