great & recommend it
I didnt have a clue what to buy and whether to trust most reviews but i am very glad i went with it based on title...I bought this for my other half and he LOVES it, he is a tattoo ARTIST so for him to love it i think it must be a great book and would defo recommend... looking for another now to add to his collection :-)

What an inspiring presentation of beautiful, full-color photos of incredible tattoos. Each tattoo shown is so creative. I can imagine every tattoo parlor having a copy of this book in their lobby/waiting room since people would get so excited about them sales would be sure to climb. They'd probably get lots of questions like, "Can you do one like that for me?" But beside the photos, Tania has presented a spiritual perspective that I've never considered before. It's like having a friend guide you through a whole other aspect of the world of tattoos.

Spiritual Skin is a MUST BUY!
As someone who does not have any tattoos, but has always wanted one (and has almost had several in my lifetime but was always stopped by the fear of regret down the road), I was immediately drawn to Tania Marie's new book, Spiritual Skin. Tania provides insight and guidance that anyone who is considering a tattoo needs to have. I finally feel like I have the knowledge and inspiration to begin the creative process of developing a tattoo that will be both beautiful and deeply meaningful, even in the long term. Look no further..
I usually don't like 'flash tattoo' books of any sort. Unless it's a very genre specific book with very high quality photos likeBushido : Legacies of the Japanese Tattoo by Takahiro Kitamura.Mammoth Tattoos is not a collection for the 'I must get this tattoo for my next inking' folks... Leave that for the flash books and various tattoo magazines out there.Unlike all those though--The Mammoth Book Of Tattoos had me floored as I had never before seen such a staggeringly fresh and inspirational collection of art on almost every page. And certainly every genre. Each artist and their art represented by very high quality photos. I had to pick what I didn't like and came up with three out of the 80 artists represented.This really is a fascinating (coffee-table/reference)book for anyone who appreciates graphic design, classic and modern and yes art which only happens to be on an epidermal canvas.

Huge help in planning/designing first tattoo
I've been planning for my first tattoo since booking my appointments with my chosen artist 3 months in advance (since he was booked up that far out). This book really helped me consider the design/content I will have custom drawn, not only because of the large number of tattoo's shown in this book by top artists, but also because the Japanese tattooing style is very well represented (which is what I am getting). I also liked that there were quite a few large tattoos in this book, and not just full of smaller shoulder-sized tattoos.There are also other styles represented, but I would say 40% of the book is Japanese style tattoos. To me it has been invaluable, and given the inexpensive cost, would be worth having for the seriously tattoo'ed as well as the tattoo admirerer as an eclectic coffee table book (although there's some nudity in it, so keep that in mind for the under 18 crowd).

Good Book
This book is perfect for you if you're not familiar with the Tattoo/Flash/Savage magazines. Personally I've seen all this stuff a million times before in the previously mentioned magazines. The only thing this has that mags don't is nudity. I had to hide a few pages from prying eyes. My cynical side wonders why Kim Saigh, Corey Miller, and Hannah Aichitson were included. La Ink anyone??? Overall good.

Good source of design ideas
Lora S. Irish is a talented artist and this plain book is a nice step-stone for designers and other artists to glean ideas, and not just for tattoos. As a matter of fact, I don't really think the designs in the book are very contemporary as far as body-art designs go today. While not the most complicated set of designs, she shows very well how to increase their complexity and interest. Her line-drawings are supplemented by shaded drawings which illustrate how the design can be embellished and come to life. As a reference or guide, this book is very useful. It is rather thick to be copied or scanned and you will have to either remove the pages or break the back to successfully do either, unless you are hand-copying with transfer paper.I highly recommend it as an addition to your design-source library for pyrography (wood burning), carving, painting, and yes, even for a tattoo.

not a bad start
while the technique displayed in this book is of a pretty high quality, i wouldn't buy this in an attempt to try and find a tattoo to get, but for someone who wants to learn how to draw tattoos and learn the the traditional tattoo style of drawing. i would say its pretty handy to have.
