Three Stories in One Game
Since the beginning of the Company of Heroes franchise, the stories that it has told have been born of the game's unique and engaging RTS experience. Focused on historically based, intense, small-scale WWII combat rather than the mega battles set in sci-fi or fantasy game worlds that are common to most RTS games, this allows players to experience both the fruits and follies of their battlefield decisions on an intimate level as they truly become part of the story. This approach to storytelling is taken even further in three separate single player campaigns built into Tales of Valor. Set during the historical battles following the Allied invasion of Europe on D-Day, these three -- Tiger Ace, Causeway and Falaise Pocket -- illustrate the struggles of both individual German and Allied squads from both the perspective of tank commanders and crew and field soldiers. Each campaign contains three missions, allowing players to immerse themselves in the gameplay and get to know their squadmates.

New Multiplayer Vehicles and Modes
In addition to its single player campaigns, Company of Heroes also features significant new multiplayer functionality. The first example of this are the variety of vehicles that players will have access to in multiplayer modes. These include, but are not limited to, the 'Schwimmwagon' an German amphibious vehicle used for reconnaissance missions and enemy troop harassment; the Hellcat, a sturdy Allied plane valuable in battling tanks from above; and the Kangaroo, a heavily armored, British troop carrier. The game also contains three new multiplayer modes which utilize both Allied and Axis forces. 'Stonewall' mode is a co-op mode where players work together to fend off invasion as they struggle to keep a town from falling under enemy control. 'Assault' mode challenges players to push the limits of the front line as they choose a unit, battle opposing enemy units and attempt to destroy the opposition's headquarters. And finally, 'Panzerkrieg' is an all out arcade style tank battle where every unit is out for itself.

Direct Fire Control
As an extension of Company of Heroes' focus on small-scale, but intense combat, Tales of Valor features a new optional targeting system known as 'Direct Fire.' Through this players can target exact spots on tanks or other vehicles, specific areas of the battlefield or even individual soldiers within a unit. This ultra specific targeting system allows players to get even closer to the action than in previous games, yet is toggle based, making it is easy for players to return to standard firing as you choose. 'Direct Fire' is available in all single player campaigns, as well as the 'Panzerkrieg' multiplayer mode.

Key Game Features:

  • 3 Immersive Storylines - Take command of key soldiers and experience how they helped turn the tide of battle in some of the most historic clashes of World War II.
    • Episode 1: Tiger Ace - Control Tiger Tank Ace Hauptmann Voss’s highly decorated Tigergruppen against the British 7th Armored Division on D-Day in one of the most famous tank battles of WWII.

    • Episode 2: Falaise Pocket - Command the Wehrmacht Army as your soldiers try and hold off the advancing Allied army.

Best game ever
This is second COH I have purchased. Since I replaced my PC I needed new CDs so I went for the Anthology which contains all COH factions. Easy to install even on Windows7.Price was right, delivery right as promised. Excellent deal.

Great game, setup and patching defective.
I bought this game because i had played CoH before and the three pack was a very good deal. it arrived 4 days after i ordered it, which is impressive, seeing as how it was shipped from the UK. So first i found the three instruction booklets and notice the original CoH doesn't even have an install code. I later found you have to install tales of valor first, then after that installs you install the other two through opposing fronts. Am i the only one who finds this very odd? why would an expansion be installed first? this would be very confusing if you didn't read the directions. So after it installs i open up the game's main menu and click updates. Instead of the internet opening i get wordpad with all the code. So i click the official site button... same problem. I run the game to see if that will work and it immediately says i need a patch to play online. Well i don't play online, but why not if it helps performance. I click yes and it stalls for a while, then says it...

Great Game with the Worst Patching Scheme I've Seen
First of all, there are a lot to like about the CoH series. The graphics, the physics and the unit strategy elements of the CoH series of games are by far among the best in the RTS games I have played, and I have played RTS games for almost 20 years starting from a very young age. This series of games present campaigns in managable segments and load them with tons of strategic elements to make them fun and refreshing. The opposing fronts game adds two more armies: Britsh 3rd Army and the German Panther Elite to which you can command (in addition to the original CoH's US Army's 101 air born able company and the German troops). My interest in the WWII history made this game even more fascinating to me personally as I can engage my computer units in some historically signifcant WWII campaigns. The game does a good job of including bits of actual WWII history to further engage the players. The representation of the units and equipment is also quite authentic, true to the real...

What a buggy POS this is....
I have never seen a more buggy game. Patch after patch after patch. On # 4 now and it won't launch. Finally had it working after extensive emails to customer suupport then, today, it decided it needed another 112MB patch. After downloading it, it supposedly patched but on relaunch still wants the patch. ARRRGGHHH! Who is writing this crappy code and who is checking it? I just want to come home from work and play a little game...instead its sheer frustration. I understand their desire for copyright protection, but their requirements for you to jump through so many hoops is ridiculous. THQ you should be ashamed....

Something for any Civil War buff
Courage in Blue and Grey is a good read and a worthwhile addition to any collection of Civil War literature. This collection of essays introduces the reader to behind-the-scenes personal perspectives on real people who lived and died during this painful chapter of American history. The author is concise, expressive and articulate in bringing to life Civil War experiences that will captivate readers of all ages. Of particular interest is the exceptional selection of pictures and reproductions culled from the Library of Congress and other archives. It is a rare book, indeed, that can hold the interest of adult history enthusiasts as well as adolescents still developing their predilections. The wide-ranging appeal of these diverse stories offers something to any Civil War buff.

short but interesting
Ken has written a short but fascinating account of Civil War characters and events that should be of interest to anyone who follows this intense time in US history. He goes deeply behind the scenes to uncover some of the lesser known lore of this volatile time. Highly recommended.

Product Description

The Civil War is the defining moment in our history. More than 620,000 Americans died in that conflict, a figure that far exceeds the number of dead in any other American war. Although military history occupies the popular imagination, battles and tactics do not exist apart from the larger context – the world inhabited by the people who lived during that unique time in our history.       This is a rich sampling of Civil War stories – tales of courage and valor – culled from letters, diaries, newspapers, periodicals, battle reports and pamphlets, which feature some well known and not so well known people who faced danger and uncertainty and showed great courage throughout this difficult time in our nation’s history.     Collected in this volume is the story of how Walt Whitman was drawn to the Civil War; the tale of George Armstrong Custer’s life-long friendship with a far less famous Confederate general; the drama of America’s greatest amphibious assault prior to World War II; the contrast between the post-war fate of Confederate Generals James Longstreet and Turner Ashby; the excitement of the Battle of Mobile Bay; the hardships faced by the new Confederate Post Office;  the chronicle of a neurosurgeon’s pioneering techniques that were later used in World War I;  the adventure of  a Prussian nobleman who fought with JEB Stuart; and the mystery of how a copy of the Bill of Rights stolen during Sherman’s march to the sea was finally recovered by the FBI nearly one hundred and forty years after the Civil War.   Here, in vivid detail and with a dramatic flair, are the voices of soldiers and sailors, friends and enemies, doctors, correspondents, generals and politicians, all told in a way that only history from the heart can tell. These tales convey the vitality, the humor, the courage and the valor of a people and their volatile era.   These colorful stories offer a glimpse into the personalities, attitudes and events that at once enhance our understanding of the Civil War and shape our perspective today. Richly illustrated throughout, this volume offers insights into the mind and character of those who lived the experience of the Civil War.
