Lots of fun!
My husband and I bought this for our 2 1/2-year-old daughter and she absolutely loves it! She plays in it every day. We liked the idea of natural look so it would not stand out like a sore thumb in the backyard. It is big enough to hold my daughter and two of her friends. She also has a 6-year-old cousin who loves to play in it. They play for hours in it. The sides have little blocks on the corners for the kids to sit while in the sandbox and they are sturdy enough for an adult to sit on. The cover is high and rounded at the top so we are able to store all of her sand toys in the box. We are very happy with this purchase and would recommend this Step 2 product to anyone looking for a sandbox for young children.

Safe Sand
Great sand pit! However buy safe sand. There are 4 grades of sand(Fill, plaster, masonary, and Play) and only one grade is suitable for children's sand boxes:play sand. It should be silica free (depending on the state you live in) and is often sterilized. For this reason it is more expensive than the fill sand that is sold in the hardware store. Crystalline silica, a colorless mineral, also called quartz, is an ingredient in sand, exposure to crystalline silica dust can cause lung diseases such as silicosis, inhaling airborne crystalline silica dust also has been associated with other diseases such as tuberculosis and lung cancer.

Great sand box - be careful about buying sand!
I want to thank M. Beatrice for planting the seed in my mind about "safe" play sand. I read the review, bought this sand box for my one-year old daughter and went to Home Depot to buy Play Sand. The label said it was specifically for use in sandboxes and washed, filtered, etc., so I bought four bags. When I was unloading it at home, the red warning label caught my eye "Warning: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer". I couldn't believe it, so checked the sand manufacturer's website [...] and sure enough, it's silica sand, known to cause cancer. Good grief and it's legal to sell this stuff for children's sand boxes?Yes, it's cheap, less than $20 for 200 lbs. But what price do we put on our kid's health? Back it goes and I begin my search for exorbitantly priced "safe sand". (For ideas, type in "safe play sand" in your search engine.) But who cares? At least I won't have to worry about my daughter spending hours...

Sandbox/pool :)
We use this as sandbox/pool. When our 2 year old gets tired of playing with sandbox we convert it into a small pool. It seems he likes the pool setup better than sandbox!

great little sandbox for 2 boys
I wanted to purchase an inexpensive and durable sand box for 1 autistic 10 year old and one very active 4 year old and this fit the bill. It is wonderful for my sons to play in the sand(as a form of play therapy) since it helps as per the occupational/floortime therapist. It's also a lot of fun for 2 boys to sit for an hour in one place pouring sand and making sand castles with the Sandastik play sand(free shipping with Amazon prime). It's a little cold outside but still worth it.

Perfect smaller sandbox for a condo patio!
My two boys (2 and 3) love this sand box. They have the big turtle sand box at grandma and grandpa's house and love playing in it, so we decided to find a smaller version that would fit our condo's patio and leave some room for us to sit as well. This was perfect! The boys love it, it fits two bags of sand and the lid is super easy to take on and off.Totally worth it and the delivery was quick and FREE with Amazon Mom!

Supersize sandbox... unlimited play!
This sandbox is very nice looking, easy to assemble and has been a great addition to our outdoor play. Great size, the seats are just right and the play room is fantastic. Comes with a cover that keeps our pets from digging. Super product for the price overall. I suggest placing heavy duty garden tarp under the sand.

Great sandbox!
Great product, easy to put together, my daughter loves it. The small, plastic "turtle" sandboxes are good for younger children/toddlers, but when your child gets a bit bigger, they need more room to play! This 5x5 size is perfect for older kids who really like to dig and build in the sand. It was so easy to put together- and yes, it smelled terrible right out of the packaging as the box warned me, but that smell quickly went away by the time it was together. I would reccommend this to anyone looking for a good, sturdy sandbox for their growing child who needs more room to play. The seats are strong enough for Mom or Dad to sit and play w/ their child, as well.

Nice sandbox
This is a great sandbox and my husband said it was very easy to put together. We treated it with Thompsons water seal to help it last longer. Our daughter has a lot of fun in it. The only complaint is the cover is rediculous. It does not come to the edges well so if you have leaves they will get into the box and it is a pain to put on and off. We ordered a separate universal cover from e-bay that works much better.

Product Description

Climb into this sandy, crab-shaped play area for hours of outdoor fun. With two big "claw" seats, the Crabby Sandbox is shaped just like a big red crab. The sculptured shell lid protects the sand from weather, debris, or pets. Holds up to 300 pounds of sand. Sand and sand toys sold separately. Measures approximately 47" x 47.75" x 16". Kids won't get pinched in this plastic sandbox, even though it's designed to look like a big crab. Its somewhat rounded shape takes up a space that measures 4 by 4 feet (and the inside space measures just over 3 by 3 feet), and it holds up to 300 pounds of play sand. Both the box and the matching sculpted lid (or shell) are molded from single pieces of red plastic. At the front, the big tucked-in claws frame two crabbily prominent white eyes. There's no drain hole, so be sure to put on that shell when it rains. --Richard Farr Top to learn more

A present from Grandma!
My kids received this 2-3 years ago as a present from Grandma. It has held up wonderfully! Up to 4 kids fit in it just fine and the lid helps to keep out pesky bugs. The kids are able to sit on the "hands" of the crab, or IN the sand. They have also decided the lid can be used as a toy just as much as the sandbox itself! The lid has held up to being bent backwards numerous times and ridden down the hill in our backyard! I highly recommend this one - it stands up to kids and keeps the sand in & the bugs OUT!1smileycat :-)

A great sandbox for the buck
Wow, sandboxes can be expensive! I looked at all of the sandboxes before I bought this one. The little tikes frog sandbox was the most inexpensive one I could find, but it could only really fit 2 toddlers in it. I didn't want to spend too much on a sandbox, but didn't want to go cheap in the material as well. So I went the next step up, to this one. It is really sturdy, and my 2yr old son can sit on it's claws, or sit inside. The lid is a little flimsy, but it closes well, and I don't have to worry about "little intruders." And it can hold more than 2 toddlers so he can invite his friends over for some sun and sand.

Going on our 6th year with this toy...
Below I'm going to cut and paste my first review of this toy, one I posted almost 3 years ago. My five stars still hold true although I have had some leg weakness since then (but we've owned the toy 6 years now and I've got three bigger kids--7, 5, 3--leaning on it in every direction as well as an 80 lb. labrador retriever who has taken to standing in it to look over the fence, ahem...anyway). I am about to rescrew new holes in each leg and the table and fill the legs with stand to make it stable again but it is completely worth it given the joy it has brought my children. The water cover is still 100% effective and the toy still looks practically brand new. I have bought one more new umbrella since my last review. So, that's two new umbrellas and some leg maintenance in 6 years. Not bad. I'm determined to keep it because it is a great place for us to do lots of messy science experiments and activities, as listed below, that are best kept outdoors.Old Review from May...

Sand + Water = Mud! Good for ages 1-8...
One question you need to ask is do you want one side sand and one side water, or do you want two sides with mud? You should decide otherwise your kids will decide for you.Seriously though, we have a 1, 3, and 5 year old and all three enjoy this. I'd say that ~8 years might be the upper limit at which point kids might start to get bored...UPDATE: I'd still stick with ~8 years as the upper limit, ours are now 3, 5, and 8 and it's clearly the younger two that enjoy this the most. We're not on about our 5th year with this....I'd recommend not filling the sand side up all the way as the kids enjoy it just as much with only an inch or less of sand. Also you end up buying sand less often this way - it seems universal that they DO NOT want to keep the sand on the table.Note that there is a water drain ONLY on the "wet" side so you may have to bail the "sand" side out when they start moving the water around. It came with a few...

Leaks but worth buying
I purchased this even after the reviews about leaks in the legs. The design really is a bit silly as there is no reason to have holes for the legs as you screw them in via the side. We put it together and it leaked, I took it apart purchased some sealant at my local hardware store and reassembled. No more leaks and my little girl (16 months) loves this table. We only put water in both sides as that's entertainment enough for her. We live in Texas and I'm afraid of snakes and bugs getting in, so once she's ready for sand the fact that it's not on the ground and has a cover will help. I can see how it would be a little heavy with sand if you need to constantly move it but overall it's a great product. If we didn't have to use sealant to get it to stop leaking I would have given it 4 stars.

Simple, Sturdy Sand (Er, Beans!) Table--Great Value
We bought this sand table for our three-year-old not to fill with sand but with dried beans so we could use it indoors. We had been filling cookie sheets with beans so his diggers and dump trucks could have an excavation site, but we were constantly picking up dried beans from the floor. This was to be our solution. Well, we're still picking beans up from the floor, but the table is a big hit. It was the favorite activity at our son's three-year-old birthday party when we were confined indoors due to hot and humid weather. I'm sure it will work well if you use it as intended--outdoors and with sand. It's very well built, as we've found all the products in the Naturally Playful Step 2 line to be. The top fits very snugly. I will add that I balked at paying $20-something in shipping charges, so we bought this table directly from the Step 2 web site. It arrived in three days, via Fed Ex, and the shipping charges were less than $10 (I don't remember the exact amount). (I wasn't...

Wet Sand
I bought this for my daughter's 2nd birthday and she LOVES it. She spends 30 minutes or more playing with the sand. The problem is, the sand gets wet when it rains. We are diligent about securing the lid but the sand still gets wet. Poor design on the corners - no lip around the edges on the corners allows water to get in.

It can holds up to 80 pounds of sand, which is not included. Top to learn more

Great outdoor fun
We purchased after a prior small (3' by 3') sand box was broken in a move. Living in an apartment, we only have small patio space to put our outdoor toys on, and because my son is older now (4) we opted for the table rather than sand box. So far, after having it outside for one month with several rainy days, we've experienced no leaking like other reviewers mentioned. It's great for building sand castles, digging tunnels, etc. My only complaint is that it's a bit shallow (about 4" deep), but this doesn't really stop the fun.The upside is that is holds one 50 lb. bag of sand, about $4-6 worth. Just a side note: make sure when you are purchasing sand that it is play-grade, and silica-free. Home Depot's store brand of play sand does have silica, you will know that it has silica if there are cancer warnings on the bag. Lowe's offers Silica-free play sand at $5/50 lb. bag.The bucket and scoops that are included are fun too.

Apple just sent me and thousands of other developers a mail, stating that our apps on the Mac App Store (in my case, that's WebsitePainter and CopperCube ) will have to be sandboxed until June 1st. This means that in order to make your app sandbox-ready, you have to update your operating system, and, if your Mac is too old, you even need to buy new a Mac. I can only speak for me, but I guess other people have similar reasons: The sandbox feature can only be implemented when you are using XCode 4, the latest version of Apples development tool. Doing things as simple as manually typing a file name into a text box and letting the app then read that file won't work anymore in the sandbox. I think the fact that they are sending the mail again as reminder shows that they are a bit nervous, and probably means that not a big amount of developers, such as me, haven't sandboxed their apps yet.
