Early Album of 2010 Candidate
I open this review with a very strong piece of advice: please listen to this album in its entirety. Then come back to it within a day or two (or sooner, if you are so inclined) and give it a second listen from beginning to end. If you do that, unless you really dislike "this kind of music", I'm relatively certain you will be enchanted with the album permanently. Plastic Beach is truly an amazing work.Keep the following thoughts in mind as you navigate through other reviews of Plastic Beach. First, immediately discount any that express disillusion that this album is not the sequel to its stellar predecessor, Demon Days (2005). Comparisons to Demon Days (and, by extension, the 2001 self-titled debut album) are useful to the extent they allow you to see how the Gorillaz sound has evolved over the course of a decade. To truly appreciate this work fairly, however, you should judge it on the strength of its own merits. Moreover, this review is being written the day of its...

Product Description

Five years on from the release of Demon Days, Murdoc Niccals and co. return with Plastic Beach. The band have taken up residence, recording on a secret floating island deep in the South Pacific, a Plastic Beach HQ, made up of the detritus, debris and washed up remnants of humanity. This Plastic Beach is the furthest point from any landmass on Earth; the most deserted spot on the planet.

The world s biggest animated band, Gorillaz formed in 1998, and have since sold 12 million copies over two albums Gorillaz (2000) and Demon Days (2005). They have hit number 1 in more than a dozen countries and picked up awards including Grammys, Novellos, VMAs and EMAs.

Not quite Demon Days, but brilliant in parts.
"Empire Ants" starts off like the nice-but-boring ballads from the last Blur album. Then it suddenly explodes into a dazzling rush of impossibly clean keyboards and 's lost, spaced-out vocals. It is an incredible, beautiful contrast with Damon Albarn's conventional balladeering in the beginning.Ultimately, Plastic Beach isn't as visionary as (surely one of the top five albums of the 2000s), but when it does come together, there's nothing else like it. The album's other peak is the lead single "Stylo," which unsurprisingly bears the most resemblance to the dark mood of Demon Days. It's packed with even more brilliant left-field juxtapositions than "Feel Good...

An album that demands your attention
This album is innovative, because it demands that you pay close attention to every word, and every sound. The melodies are really catchy and stick with you after you turn off the CD player. This isn't the kind of music you can put on in the background while you are cooking, cleaning, etc. It wants you to sit down, close your eyes, and listen to every nuance of the sound. Enter the world of Gorillaz and check out this album!

Gorillaz did what they do best. Make you like it.
Yessir. I'm a bona fide Gorillaz fan(atic). Here has been my experience with the album thus far.Three songs hit me immediately. Stylo, Rhinestone Eyes and To Binge. The rest didn't come easy at first. Partly because I didn't have time to give them a fair listen and partly (mostly) because Gorillaz does that to me. When I got the first album, I put it away immediately, only to be bored one day and give it a fair listen and fell in love. Demon Days was definitely easier on the ears first listen, but I cannot say that the first few spins were as lovely as now. Plastic Beach is no different. I got the feeling that I wouldn't like it at first. Kinda saddened me. I knew however that I'd keep it in my car every trip for a while to see if it would catch me. Today I got the smile on my face, knowing that this album won't disappoint. I can't stop playing this and it probably won't for a while.I guess this is a word of caution to the casual listener. This album requires...

A review of the Deluxe Edition contents & packaging for Plastic Beach
I ventured on board the Gorillaz hype machine during Demon Days, their 2nd album and possibly their best to date. At the time I picked up the Deluxe version of Demon Days and loved the incredible quality of the package. With a great plastic slip, unique artwork and an entire mini-art book and DVD / CD it was truly an exceptional value as well as collector's piece. When I saw the artwork for the Gorillaz latest album, 'Plastic Beach' I immediately thought of how great the last Deluxe edition had been and put in my pre-order. Upon it's arrival, the first thing that immediately struck me is how cheap it looked. Rather than any sort of slip case or plastic, everything in this "Deluxe" edition is cardboard. It looks terrible in comparison to the Demon Days deluxe package and basically it's a fold out cardboard piece with 2 sleeves that hold 2 smaller cardboard sleeves for the CD & DVD 'Making Of.' The saving grace for the packaging is the artwork, with vivid colors and images it...

It's Like a Tumor, It Grows on You (UPDATE: Buy the Cheaper Version)
When I first got this CD and popped it into my computer to give it a listen, I wasn't impressed. The songs seemed forgettable, repetitive, and it just seemed like a just above mediocre CD. In a state of shock, I listened to it again on my iPod, and while it still wasn't my favorite CD, I found more little things I liked about it. I just kept listening to it to find more things that they put in there, and after a while, it became brilliant in my mind. Now, before I begin my analysis, I think you should know what the Gorillaz are. I'm not going to put a big description and waste space here, so just look them up on Wikipedia. Here we go!1. Orchestral Intro: This is a nice little tune, I felt kind of like I was looking at a beach covered in syringes, plastic bags and other crap. Good show, Jamie/Damon.2. Welcome to The World of The Plastic Beach: This is not a good way to start out the vocal songs. I guess the melody is fine, just really sleepy. And that seemed to have...

Gorillaz pull out all the stops on "Plastic Beach"
In the past ten years, the Gorillaz have accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. Once conceived as a side project of Blur frontman Damon Albarn and "Tank Girl" creator Jamie Hewlett, ironically, got more attention and noteriety than Albarn's actual group. Their success is very surprising, given that Gorillaz isn't even a real band and they release a commercially viable album once almost every five years. While Dan The Automator produced their 2001 self titled debut, and Danger Mouse helmed their sophomore effort "Demon Days", this time around, the Gorillaz decide to produce the new album "Plastic Beach" themselves. On this album, they continue down the road of genre-bending madness, surprise cameos and all star guests appearances.Starting off the album is "Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach" featuring an unlikely cameo from Snoop Dogg. This album also has appearances from music legends from all walks of life. Starting off the cameos are Bobby Womack on the...

Vinyl perfect; Music great
I'd heard of Gorillaz before but never heard them until this album. What brought them to my attention specifically was the presence of Mick Jones and Paul Simonon. This music almost seems like a "Sandinista" outtakes and remix album. All the other guests add very much to the mix: Mos Def, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Bobby Womack and others.

Give 6 stars out of 5
"Plastic Beach" is quite simply a masterpiece, another manifestation of Damon Albarn's music genius. Really, there's no point describing the album itself - for those who want to buy a vinyl copy, everything is almost certainly clear. What I really want to say about this product is that the sound quality on the record is absolutely EXCEPTIONAL. I would never expect that vinyl can sound that good! Also, the cover and artwork are a value in itself.Let there be no doubt - this album is more that worth the money.

Product Description

We rejoin the band as Murdoc the bass player is gathering musicians and collaborators to create the new album. The new Gorillaz empire is set on a strange floating island deep in the South Pacific at the furthest point from any land mass on the planet... Introducing Plastic Beach - an island made entirely of plastic, debris and the washed up remnants of humanity. Amongst the collection of historical remains and discarded rubble, Murdoc finds a book detailing the history of Man right up to the present day, except the last chapter "The End of Days" has been torn out - the future is missing. Time to get the band together, finish this album and have fun while the sun still shines...To complete the task, Murdoc has assembled some other musicians to join the band at Plastic Beach, these select people would join him on his floating Hellfire Club, as musicians, players and contributors in this wonky, damaged Plastic opera. Mos Def, Bobby Womack, The Horrors, Lou Reed, Little Dragon, rappers Kano and Bashy, Mark. E. Smith, Syrian orchestras, global musicians and more....All would be subpoena-ed to collaborate on this visionary Gorillaz record now on Vinyl! Top to learn more

Please show your support for this proposed Solana Beach ordinance simply by attending the hearing of the Solana Beach City Council and giving your own public comment in support of the Rise Above Plastics campaign from Surfrider. Solana Beach is taking “alarming” action Wednesday and needs our respectful presence and active support in joining other thoughtful cities around the globe which have banned single-use plastic bags. Any fellow volunteers who participate in annual beach cleanups over the many years know, the ban on ‘butts on the beach has significantly helped limit another dangerous and common beach pollutant. This article is about attending the Solana Beach meeting and voicing your opinion (btw: this was passed). California spends $25 million annually to landfill discarded plastic bags, and public agencies spend more than $300 million annually in litter cleanup. A growing list of cities have taken similar actions to reduce production and use of single-use plastic bags. Join others who wish to demonstrate sensible support by attending this public hearing on the proposed plastic bag reduction ordinance. California spends $25 million to landfill plastic bags. So, perhaps an all out ban or at least a hefty tax on single-use plastic bags makes sense.
