  • HARDINESS ZONE: 8 - 12 / Houseplant . . . OTHER NAMES: Umbrella Plant / Umbrella Papyrus / Umbrella Sedge
  • BLOOM TIME: Spring
  • This enthusiastic grower has been reported to actually be hardy all the way down to zone 5. I've read many accounts of people growing them in ponds that completely froze over and came back or plants covered in 6" of snow that weren't even effected. In extremely cold conditions, the plant may die down or some of the fronds will typically turn brown. If this happens, you can just remove the brown fronds by cutting them off and the plant should regrow in the spring. It can of course be grown in pots and brought indoors over the winter months. This tolerant plant will grow in a variety of soils and seems to tolerate dryness or extreme moisture (under water) very well. Once established, they are very easy to divide or new plants can be grown from cuttings. To do this, simply cut off a small frond from the palm and put it in water. In an amazing 7-10 days, you should begin to see roots. Once the plant has taken root, just plant it in soil. This agreeable beauty will add a great tropical flair to your landscape!

Plants can be the focal point for water gardens. Avoid using invasive plants in container gardens. Yet tabletop fountains and miniature container waterfalls don’t need plants. Each volume contains numerous projects with details on design, construction, maintenance, practical advice, and tips on choosing plants and fish. Enjoy the many pleasures of water gardening with container water gardens and miniature tabletop fountains on your deck or patio. Lilypons offers several varieties of miniature lotus plants. This graceful plant has delicate leaves and wispy flower heads. These usually spread by runners, and can easily overcrowd the other plants.

Papyrus is a beautiful plant with a rich history and tradition. Papyrus is a big plant and it needs space in order to be appreciated. Use this plant along the shores of lakes, ponds, and slow moving streams to create masses of hazy light green foliage. It is now a popular landscape plant, gracing fishponds and pools in frostfree areas around the world. This keeps it from invading other plants' territories and simplifies maintenance. Papyrus stems grow in great masses in shallow water and wet soils.

Chlorophytum is Known as the Spider Plant Chlorophytum is one of the most familiar of indoor plants. Alternatively, keep the plantlet attached to the plant and pin it into a pot of compost nearby until the plant gets established. At points along these stems, small plantlets are produced, and it is from this habit that the plant gets its common name of spider plant. Cissus Plants Have Glossy Leaves C issus is a group of and tying in. Pinching the tips of the plant out regularly will encourage it to form more of a bushy shape, and to climb less vigorously. While they are still attached to the plant, they will start producing roots and can then be severed from the parent and potted up into small pots of compost. It is also increadibly easy to propagate and so is one of the many indoor plants that is more often given as a home grown plantlet than it is bought in a shop. In actual fact, if grown well, it can make a fine indoor plant with a good shape and strong leaf colour. Many plants exist in a pretty sorry condition, covered in dead or dying leaves, or suffering from not being potted on for several years. Because Chlorophytum is so easy to grow, the plant can often be neglected. When they are grown well, there are few foliage plants as colourful, although some might not think that an entirely good thing. Doing this when the plant is still young, or when re-potting, avoids the possibility of harming the existing roots by forcing the supports into them. As it grows so fast, it may be necessary to pot the plant up every year.
