A book well done with solid information
A well written book covering topics for both beginners and those with more advanced skills. I have been using OneNote since it was first launched and there are many things I picked up in this book.Another reviewer mentioned the videos. While I have the paperback book, I don't think the Kindle edition would be different. In the introduction on page 3 is the link to register the book and gain access to the videos. The videos are the author doing screen casts - these are not high quality videos like Lynda.com. This is not a knock, this is just a different style but they work well. Its a nice compliment to the book and I am glad they are available as a companion to the written text. The one chapter missing from the book are tips and tricks for organization. I would like to hear about some suggestions for how to best organize my data.If you are on Windows and use Outlook, Word and such, then this book is a good investment.

The easy road to good results
Let's focus on the results. In the three weeks since I received the book, I came from being a newbie to a strong user of OneNote 2010. Not trivial, if you consider that: a) I do not have much free time to put into the effort and b) I had been struggling for over a year to find practical uses for OneNote. I had the feeling that OneNote held a valuable prize inside, but I didn't have the key to open it.Now let's go to the activities. The book starts at the very beginning, and slowly builds block by block from there. Again ... sounds trivial, but it isn't. During the first chapters I felt it was a bit too slow, but I had made my mind to read the full text in its proper order, do all the exercises and review all the videos. The book holds no surprises, no emotions. The voice in the videos is clear and precise, if a little boring too.But then, I found that I had been learning new things. By the...

Unexpected Help
I am not usually big on getting books about office products. I tend to figure out what I need on my own by using help and visiting web sites. OneNote is a little different. Unlike Word or Excel, there is very little in the area of example of using the application. If you have ever used a word processor or spreadsheet, you pretty much understand how to use Word and Excel. OneNote is a different breed. It turns out, reading a book on its use brings into focus not only ways to use the program, but why you would use.I don't want this to be a review of the software, but of the book. So I'll leave it to the user of the application to determine its value. As for the book, I found it to be excellent. I've been using OneNote for a couple of months and did not think I would get much out of the book. I was wrong. I learned many small things that make the software more useful. Since the purpose of the software is to be used for all of your note taking, small tips which...

The Best Note-Taking Software ... BY FAR !
I have used & been utterly fascinated with this genre of software {"note-taker," "organizer," "outliner," "free-form database," "personal information manager"} for decades. I well remember using the earliest versions of "Tornado Notes" & askSam--both of which were wonderful in their time; I've upgraded both of those apps over the years & have tested NUMEROUS other competing programs--including MyInfo, Ultra Recall, Info Select, TreePad, & WhizFolders. OneNote Easily beats them ALL! There is simply no contest. For those of you who haven't tried OneNote, here's a brief description of its many benefits--While its Feature-List is Huge, Polished, & Intuitive, these are some key features:: OneNote is a great place to put ALL your notes. It lets you organize all your data & access it in a Snap. Easily add HYPERLINKS Between any Notes, or Hyperlink to websites & to other programs. It Retains Formatting when you copy from the Web or other apps, & accepts text,...

Much Needed Upgrade Fills Holes of Previous Versions
OneNote was a really good, but flawed product before. I tried OneNote 2007 a few years ago and loved it, but had trouble using it over two different computers -- work and home. It could not compete very well with programs like EverNote for users that use more than one computer. Now, it syncs really well over the web and I love it! It keeps me organized wherever I am. I can access my notebooks even if I'm on someone else's computer through a web browser. Is it perfect? No, but its close and its the best option out there. I no longer "store" information only to not be able to remember later where I stored that information. Highly recommended.

Microsoft OneNote 2010 gives you the ideal place to store and share your information in a single, easy-to-access location.

By sharing your notebooks, you can simultaneously take and edit notes with other people in other locations, or just keep everyone in sync and up to date. You can also take your OneNote 2010 notebooks with you--view and edit your notes from virtually any computer with an Internet connection or your Windows phone.1

Create one centralized resource for all of your ideas
OneNote 2010 delivers an array of new and improved tools that make it easy for you to capture and reference your ideas and important information.

  • Take notes while working in Microsoft Word 2010, PowerPoint 2010, or Internet Explorer using the new Linked Notes feature. OneNote provides a link to where you were in the source document at the time you took the note, keeping your ideas automatically connected to the content you create.
  • Save time and make your important content easily accessible. Use the new quick filing feature in OneNote 2010 to collect information while working in other programs. Send a copy of content from documents, Web pages, e-mail messages, or almost any program to the exact location you want in your OneNote notebooks.

Manage information with tools that save time and simplify your work
It's much easier to manage information when you can customize the way you work.

  • Explore and manage your notebooks more effectively with an enhanced notebook navigation bar, improved tools for managing sections, and multi-level page groups.

Work together more successfully
If you are one of the many people who work with others on projects, OneNote 2010 has good news for you.

  • In OneNote 2010, see recent changes highlighted automatically when you open a shared notebook along with an indicator showing who made each change.

  • Retrieve content you inadvertently discarded from the Notebook Recycle Bin or restore previous page versions if someone has made changes to the notes you need.

Collect information, brainstorm, and share ideas from more places
Your ideas, deadlines, and emergencies don't always occur conveniently when you are at your computer.

  • OneNote Web App is an online companion to Microsoft OneNote which enables you to extend your OneNote experience to the browser. Store your notes online and edit them from a Web browser. View and copy notes quickly, view edits by author, access previous page versions, and even edit shared notebooks simultaneously with others who are using OneNote Web App and OneNote 2010.2
  • OneNote Mobile 2010 gives you a lightweight viewing and editing tool for your notes that's especially designed for easy use on your Windows phone.3

Whether you're collecting information, making a plan, working with a team on an important project, or getting work done on the run, OneNote 2010 gives you the power to manage all of your information more easily, with more flexibility, and with better results.

OneNote 2010 search problem fixed w/patch!
UPDATED 07/28/11 --> OCR problem fixed. Original post has been updated to reflect usage for over a year. To Whom it May Interest, I am a dyed-in-the-wool proponent of OneNote thanks to its second iteration, 2007. While 2003 gave a tantalizing (and frustrating!) glimpse of what could be, 2007 delivered in most every way: functionality, stability, usability, and so on. I can attest that it is the best consumer program for indexing content I've ever come across. People, particularly students and others who need to accumulate and organize information, are disserving themselves and their projects by not using it. I used the beta for several months and then purchased the program, which I've been using for over a year now. While 2010 was nothing near the gargantuan leap between 2003 and 2007, it didn't need to be. I appreciated the refinement of just a few key features in my favorite program, including: (1) adding the...

Great for first-time and long-time users
If you are reading this review, you most likely fall into one of two camps - either you are fan of Microsoft OneNote 2010 and use it on a regular basis, or you are more likely one of the countless millions of Microsoft Office users that have installed, but never used, OneNote 2010 along with the rest of the Microsoft Office Suite - this book is aimed squarely at both groups. For those who have occasionally worked with OneNote 2010, there is typically a sense that you are only scratching the surface of it's capabilities - this book will expose you to all the significant features of the product in a quick, "Let me show you how to do that" manner that I find very useful. Those with a bit more experience with the product will find new ways to accomplish tasks, and find useful introductions to features in the product you might not be aware of.If you are new to OneNote 2010 this book provides a great overview of the many ways you can use OneNote 2010 to collect and...

Its OK
As a never-before-user, I wanted a very basic (plain and simple)tutorial. This wasn't it. The book is correct and accurate, but covers too much breadth to contain the level of detail I wanted. Requires extensive trial and error to learn the basics of One Note -- which I could have accomplished without the book.

Fair but not great
I got this "cheat sheet" for the 2010 version of Microsoft's OneNote program for my wife as a quick reference. It does include a number of the most basic features of the program, but I was not impressed overall. Quite of few of the features are not included on the sheet, and so it does not do the job of providing a quick reference to all of the capabilities of OneNote. The sheet itself is of nice quality; firm plastic laminate and quite legible. The OneNote program is a great tool for organizing a variety of subjects and both my wife and I both really enjoyed using the 2007 version of MS OneNote. The 2010 version is a substantial upgrade in capability as well as some changes in format, so I was hoping that a good quick reference guide would help ease my wife into the new version. Alas, the Intro Quick Reference Guide being reviewed is just too basic to be of much value.
