Supply shortage due to manufacturing plant relocation
I called Johnson and Johnson's at 1 (800) 962-5357 to inquire about the shortage of Nizoral A-D shampoo. Johnson and Johnson's informed me that the shortage is only temporary due to some manufacturing issue. The supply should return to normal later this year.Online sellers everywhere are taking advantage of the temporary shortage to price-gouge unwary customers. Some sellers are falsely claiming that this product has been discontinued to create uncertainty and increase prices.We just have to be patient. Make your own ketoconazole shampoo during Nizoral shortage.
I decided to make my own ketoconazole shampoo because I refuse to pay the price gougers on Amazon. ($109, really?!) My son has severe scalp seborrheic dermatitis due to the rampant hormones of puberty, and our pediatrician recommended Nizoral. I did a literature search to learn the chemistry. Finally something that worked
Embarassing to say, but over the past five years as my allergies worsened so did my scalp. I had gotten to the point that not only did I have extremely oily hair I started to get dandruff that got progressively worse over time until I had awful itching and huge flakes in my hair. I tried Head & Shoulders, and then switched to T-Gel, and then to clinical T-Gel, all with absolutely no resolution. I also have colored hair and these products caused fading. Since they didn't work anyway I just thought I had to suffer and started using a Sulfate free shampoo so at least my color would last longer but the itching and scalp buildup finally got the best of me. I started thinking maybe I could find a Sulfate free shampoo that would stop this severe dandruff and found Regenepure DR. I decided to give it a try. Better than you'd think
I've been looking for a good shampoo for my keratin-treated hair. Finding a good sulfate-free shampoo that doesn't leave my hair feeling "crisp" or brittle is tough. A friend suggested I try regenepure. After looking at the ingredients (which are pretty impressive), I gave it a try. Like all other non-sulfate shampoos, it lathers slightly less. But after a few uses, my hair definitely felt thicker, and it was also softer and more manageable - and that's saying a lot because I have very course, dry hair.My husband (who is 50) also uses regenepure. Nice shampoo, but in the end, it's just shampoo
I like this shampoo. It's mild: nowhere near as harsh as the Head and Shoulders I used to use. Plus I have no dandruff flakes at all with this shampoo: H&S never totally fixed my dandruff but this stuff does. I haven't seen any "volumizing" effects after using the product a few weeks but that's OK with me. I may be imagining things but it does seem to have halted or slowed the mild thinning I currently have on the top of the scalp even if it doesn't reverse it or bring any back: didn't really expect that anyway. I think a mild shampoo helps, plus no more itchy scalp either!

Even better than the prescription version
Actually, I have only used the 2% version of this product, also available here on Amazon. After suffering for ten years with misdiagnosis from a variety of doctors, it appears my scalp is getting well. I did some research of my own and learned most dandruff is caused by a fungus growth. Mine was particularly bad in a inch and a half diameter area at the crown of my head, just the perfect place to scratch and spread it. The doctors froze the skin with liquid nitrogen. Two patches were removed via surgery. It always came back. I wash my hair every day. Nothing worked until I used this product. It has taken about 10 months to cure my problem, but it seems to be nearly cured. Six months ago, I asked my doctor for a prescription shampoo to kill fungal infections. The prescription version has the same color and consistency as Nizoral. Finally I searched on the main ingredient and found a 2% version of Nizoral. Best Purchase Ever
I bought this with little hope because usually these types of Shampoo dry out my hair and scalp too much to be effective.After first use I had a lot of dandruff that was free from my scalp but stuck in my thick hair. After a second wash to rinse that away I was well on my way to being free of that problem.I would recommend it to anyone.

Hands down the best OTC option
I found out about this product several years ago when my doctor gave me the perscription formula for a bout of dandruff. It eventually became available in the non-perscription (1%) formula and for me, on the occasions that I need it the non-perscription formula has worked perfectly.It is a very nice shampoo, aside from the anti-dandruff properties. It has a tingly (not burning or caustic feel) fresh feeling when you are using it and lathers extreamly well even in the hard water I have at home. After using it my hair has a very clean but not dry feeling. I will use it from time to time as needed (usually in the fall) and I just had my son use it as well. It worked very well for him too and after the first use, the flakes were pretty much gone. Typically I will use it about a week and than I won't need it anymore. I also try to leave the lather on a few minutes to give it a chance to *work*.I have to say that if you are in the market for a dandruff shampoo chose this one...

My head. What was wrong with my head??? I say this because I never had problems with dandruff until my late twenties, when all of a sudden my skin started flaking off when touched. My eyebrows, my scalp, and even my ears! Friends would make fun of my ears and say I have wax in them, but it was really just loose skin flakes.I gave it some time (a few years) hoping it would pass, trying different washing procedures, shampoos, etc. Basically, anytime I'de go in the shower.. I'de get out, dry.. and my skin would quickly follow with dryness, redness and flakes. It was ugly.Finally, I get the nerve to see a dermatologist - and I say this because I dont like doctors much. The dermo told me that I needed to treat the problem, sebhoric dermatitis. Gave me a bunch of Neutrogena anti-dandruff samples and what not. I just ordered Nizoral for the first time from England. The order came in within two weeks in perfect condition. I have long hair, past my shoulders, and was amazed how little I had to use, probably a teaspoon full. I did use my customary Argan Oil shampoo for the first shampoo, however. The second washing was with Nizoral and I left it on a full three minutes. I then used my Argan Oil conditioner. I was amazed how one use of Nizoral affected my hair. It had a beautiful shine and was easy to comb which was not the case with just the Argan Oil treatment. I will follow up with another review after I had the opportunity to use it for a few months
