Best Grater Yet
I loooove cheese, so I need a grater that can handle a pound or two with ease. The hand graters may take up less space, but take a lot more energy to use and are not versatile. Plus the box grater's flat sides make for much better grating surfaces than the curved hand graters usually have.Like all OXO good grips products, this grater has comfortable handles, and a practicle, but very attractive design. The steel is sturdy, stain and scratch resistant. No problems sticking this in the dishwasher, though you should take off the removable rubber rim on the bottom of the grater first and make sure all pieces are dry before reassembling and storing.I didn't think I would like or use the plastic container, but again, OXO's talent for design wins out. The container is a good size for most meals serving 2-5 people, and just slap on some saran wrap to store for in the fridge for later. I haven't tried anything but cheese yet, however the grater seems quite sharp... Top to learn more
Excellent, well designed grater.
I purchased this based on a review by Cooks Magazine. It is everything I need in a grater. First off, it grates very well. Beyond that it has some excellent design features. The handle is very comfortable to grip and the bottom ring keeps it secure on the counter top. It is very easy to clean as your hand with a sponge fits easily inside. The cup has a lid and is a handy addition for grating and then storing. The best thing is that the cup with its lid fits up inside the grater for storage. A real plus for people with limited space like me. This is my 3rd or 4th grater purchase and don't think I will need another one for a very long time. Top to learn more

Simple, effective, easy to store
The Progressive Grater set is everything I hoped it would be: sturdy, well designed, simple to use, easy to clean and store, and an ideal size. The product could be improved with a solid insert for the lid so the user could store the grated product in the 'frig ready for use. That is absolutely the only thing it lacks. You're sure to love this handy gadget.

This thing is fantastic.. SOLID feeling, all the cheese goes into the tray/bowl/dispenser. No longer are you faced with a grader over a plate that can't spread wide enough to get a plate under..This is a must buy..

Wish I'd bought this grater MONTHS ago!
I purchased this after spending 2 hours zesting limes for a gourmet cookie recipe with the traditional potato-peeler+ food processor method. The most time consuming part is carefully scraping way all the white pith on the inside of the peel. The pith is very bitter and can ruin your recipe. This zester did the same job in 30 seconds and didn't even touch the pith. Just pure, perfect lime zest with no effort. Totally worth its weight in gold. Now I can make those cookies again without my hands cramping up after hours scraping the peels. Who has time for that? I've also started using it for grating parmesan. Definately takes Ceaser salads and pasta up a notch. I'm purchasing several more as gifts for my friends. Would make an incredible (and cheap) holiday/birthday gift for anyone, even the casual cook. Please note that the size of the grated zest or cheese is very fine and not ideal as a garnish. Parmesan or Romano grated with this tool melts quickly into the... Top to learn more

Microplane Works!
When I received this wonderful product I placed it in the drawer and mostly forgot about it until it was time to grate some parmesan cheese. I remembered I had bought it, brought it out and pressing the cheese hard against the grater I ran it down. To my absolute amazement the cheese came out the underside of the grater with total ease. I ran the cheese across it again, this time, pressing lightly and the same thing happened. Whenever I had grated cheeses before the job was ardurous, very time consuming, and the result was usually more of a powder then nicely sectioned flakes of hard cheese. This grater is made of the very best material and extremely sharp! I can see owning this tool for many years because of its quality. I am very pleased with my purchase and encourage others to buy one.The grater came with the manufacturers "slip cover" over it and I decided to keep it on the grater when not in use for two reasons: 1. The grating surface is very sharp. It... Top to learn more

This tool will not grate on your nerves
This is probably the only tool in my kitchen that I've also found in my dad's workshop. I use it for a variety of grating tasks including hard cheeses, chocolate, nutmeg, cinnamon, and citrus zests. For hard cheeses such as parmesan, you'll get a nice, light fluffy pile of cheese as opposed to the grittier result from a traditional box grater. This is because the Microplane actually produces tiny, thin strips as opposed to hard little granules. Your cheese will melt faster and will actually look somewhat elegant perched in a snowy mound atop a bowl of pasta.Hard spices such as nutmeg grate quickly and easily, and it's a snap to run the Microplane over an orange or lemon for just the right amount of zest and no pith (unless you press to hard or work the same spot too long). With wetter foods like zest, you will have to slide the resulting product from the backside of the plane as it does tend to stick, but this only takes a quick flick of your finger. Chocolate will need to... Top to learn more

For fluffy, evenly sized cheese shreds, this is the perfect grater. Its design is based on that of a rasp, the small and efficient woodworking tool. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. The large handle allows for a firm grip, and the completely flat grating surface makes it easy to move the cheese across the blades. Carrots, onions, and medium to firm cheeses all worked beautifully with this grater. It's also an excellent choice for larger strips of citrus zest or ginger. --Jill LightnerTop to learn more

Trudeau's 4-sided cheese grater is the perfect kitchen gadge for the multi-tasker. The variable 4 sides offer the ability to grate hard cheese, soft cheese and hard veggies ( it's great for carrots in a salad). The grater has a comfortable fit in the hand and non-slip handle for steady grating. It also has a non-skid, non-scratch base. Dishwasher safe. Top to learn more
Sturdy and steady as she goes...but a bit dull.
Trudeau 0991100 4-Sided Cheese GraterI like it, but...The box grater is decent. The one I received was steady, even, and sturdy. That being said, however, this is not a *perfect* box grater.1)The opening through which you grate are not very sharp...they are, in fact, dull. This, however, does not seem to greatly affect its performance as I was able to grate through several potatoes fairly easily.2)My last qualm about this product is that the dark, presumably silicone, lip that you see at the base of the grater is sort of haphazardly attached to it. Sort of like its popped on like a Tupperware cap. I am not sure how long it will last. Top to learn more
Sturdy Grater
This is a sturdy, well made grater. I haven't used it for hard cheeses, but it does an excellent job on cheddar, carrots, apples, etc. The non-skid base is nice, as is the padded hand grip. Nice enough to leave on the counter. Top to learn more

Finally...a grater that's a pleasure to hold!
Pardon the pun, but using a grater can sometimes be a really grating experience! Most have thin inadequate handles, are hard to manipulate, are too large, too small, or just leave a huge mess for cleanup. I have a number of other OXO products and have been thrilled with them, thanks to their very user friendly grips and was equally excited to find this grater. Now that I have I can give away all the others cluttering my drawers and cupboards as none comes close to working as well as this. I have the old box style one with four edges, but honestly with a food processor who needs it, not to mention it develops rust. With this easily held grater you can position yourself over a plate, a bowl, a pan or whatever, and make precisely the grating you need. And did I mention the handle? Even though I'm hardly elderly or suffering infirmity, it's nice to have a grip that is easy on the hands instead of some thin one that's hard to hold.I can't say enough good things about the... Stainless steel head yields finely grated citrus zest, chocolate, hard cheeses, and more. Top to learn more
This easy-to-use single-panel grater transforms hard foods into finely grated textures. Because of the sharp stainless-steel blades, cheeses, chocolate, and citrus zests yield easily, and the soft, rubber handle absorbs pressure away from hands and avoids strain. The handle is also nonslip and won't budge, wet or dry. It's perfect for smaller jobs that don't require the use of a large grater, and cleanup is easy because the stainless-steel surface and rubber handle are dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie NotaroTop to learn more
Great Little Grater!
This little grater was given to me as a wishing well gift at my bridal shower 5 years ago. I still love it! It has never failed to perform on hard cheeses or spices. Quick and easy! It's a sharp little sucker, so with some elbow grease, you're done in no time. The only thing it doesn't do well is zest, but hey...that's what zesters are for! Top to learn more

The 'Professional' is worth it!
This is the second Microplane grater that I have purchased, but the only 1 of the 2 that I would give a 5* rating to. The other grater was from the standard line not the professional line. With many kitchen items there are no significant differences between the two, but in this case it definitely matters! All Microplane graters use the same basic technology for cutting -- technology which was originally developed for the woodworking industry but that has adapted for exceptional service in the kitchen as well. The razor sharp laser cut grating head will make quick & easy work of cheese grating or citrus zesting (if you have the proper size). I would suggest when choosing a size of grater that you choose 1 size larger as the sizing tends to run on the small size. Now, what makes the professional so much better? Well, the standard line has 3 major/minor flaws: 1) the easy-grip rubber handle tends to capture water when washed, 2) the plastic molded frame... Top to learn more

Essential tool, highly recommended!
This is really a terrific grater. It does the work of my standard box grater quite a bit faster and with less effort, plus it's a breeze to clean. The "extra coarse" version seems to produce grated cheese about as coarse as the coarsest side of the box grater, which is fine for my grating needs. I'm glad I purchased the Professional version for the reasons cited by a previous reviewer, although I now see Amazon has added a "non-professional" version that includes a safety cover. I don't think that was available six weeks ago. I still think the extra $2.50 is worth the more professional handle. It's so sharp that it even grates mozzarella without the cheese turning into a mushy substance that has to be cleaned off frequently while grating. As others have said about various Microplane graters in Amazon reviews, they're sharp! This isn't a criticism, but a caveat to be very careful. First thing I grated after unpacking it was my forefinger. It was a minor... Top to learn more

Very sharp, watch your fingers or the kiddies.
We had the Microplane rasp grater for a couple of years now and really liked it compared to "normal" graters. However, the rasp was a bit fine for hard cheeses sometime, and did not work real well for ginger (it excels in zesting fruits and grating nutmeg for baking). So we recently bought these two graters (this one and the coarse). They work great (mind the pun). The coarse is good for ginger and hard cheeses. The extra coarse is good for softer cheeses, like cheddar and mozzarella. The length and width of the grater is appropriate for grating over a pizza or skillet. The thoughtful touch is the rubber on the helper bar at the end. That lets you place the grater on a counter without too much slippage while grating. The graters a substantially sharper than "normal" graters, for better or worse. Mind yourself with these (or letting kids use them). I slipped with on and sheared the tip of my finger off (albeit cleanly).Good product, worth the... Top to learn more

The generous 2-1/2-by-5-inch cutting surface of Microplane’s durable extra course grater provides ample room for rapidly generating grated foods. Appropriate for soft or hard cheeses, create Mozzarella-covered pizza or Parmesan garnish from a single tool. Keeping fingers at a safe distance, hold shaver at an angle and run food in a downward motion over the grating plane. 35 razor-sharp blades, staggered on the arched cutting surface, cut effortlessly and resist clogging for continuous grating. A band of rubber encircling the bottom edge prevents slipping and provides stability. The stainless-steel handle features rounded edges for a comfortable hold, and finishes with a small metal loop to simplify storage. Measuring 13-1/2 by 3 by 1 inches, this tool carries a polished shine and is dishwasher-safe.
