Difference between garden and potting soil
I purchased Miracle-Gro Garden Soil to plant a hydrangea in my back yard. I wanted to give it a bit of good soil around the root ball instead of the clay I have. I have purchased potting soil on many occasions for my container garden but this time we got a bag of Garden Soil. Turns out there is a big difference! I did not give it much thought before. Potting soil has peat moss in it, it is airy, and it has a nice earthy smell. Garden soil is dense, heavy, and smells like cow manure. I had to dampen the dirt around the roots of the plant with my knuckles and my nose was low to the ground and, boy, did it smell. I was quite pleased for my plant but could not help yelling out, boy, is it stinky!As far as price, I got my dirt at the local home improvement store for $7.50. Shipping dirt is expensive. Great for indoor plants too
It's hard to find a good potting soil that's good for indoor plants that doesn't cause root decay or little critter growth. Also this potting soil doesn't have the strong odor as the standard Miracle Grow ones sold in regular home improvement stores. I'm assuming it's the organic factor.I did a little research online for the perfect indoor potting soil. Most avid gardeners create their own indoor potting mix. I was close to creating my own except it was getting really expensive and I haven't even spent money buying a planter! Looking at the content of this soil from Espoma, it had almost all the ingredients I needed for a successful indoor plant, and it's $9.99!I live in a condo, I have no yard, so indoor is the only place I have for plants. I'm not a gardener. I've lost many indoor plants due to root rot OR it attracts bugs and flies. So far my plants are pretty happy with this mixture.I'll revise this post if anything goes wrong. Above average potting mix but not the best
This is some decent organic potting mix. It is much better than Miracle Grow organic potting soil. It has smaller chunks and just has overall better ingredients and feel. I still added another 15-20% perlite to lighten it up some. It would probably be even better if you add in some worm castings, bat guano, and a little lime. I buy this locally at Agway for around $12 a cubic ft. Even though this is good soil it still isn't as good as Fox Farm Ocean Forest. If you can't get FFOF then Espoma might be a good alternative for you. Top to learn more

Top of the line soil
This soil is one of the best potting soil/mixes on the market. Some people say there is a difference between the original and the S.C. made kind but I'm not sure. I'm sure since I'm on the east coast mine came from the S.C. plant but it is still great soil. It is much better than Miracle Grow Organic Potting Mix and Espoma Organic Potting Mix, which are more widely available. Ocean Forest contains more great ingredients like bat guano, worm castings, etc. I love this stuff and have great success with this and Superoots Air Pots. Top to learn more

Amazing Potting Soil!
I'm relatively new to gardening. I've bought 3 types of soil so far: - Miracle Grow Organic - A local, Austin based organic potting soil that came highly recommended - Fox Farm Ocean ForestNo question, the Ocean Forest is head and shoulders better than the above two. For comparison sake, I planted an arugula plant in the latter two soils, and the Fox Farm planted arugula exploded into huge leafy plant, leaving the local soil in the dust. That was about two months ago, and it's still more of the same.Keep in mind, this is A LOT to pay for soil. However, it's a great foundation to start from. This is the kind of soil you put in a pot and then recondition and fertilize for years and years rather than just buy new soil.Fantastic product overall. Top to learn more
