Another hit from Aliki
I love the Let's Read and Find Out science series, and Aliki is one of my family's favorite authors, so this book is a real winner for us. Clearly written text and lovely illustrations make for an enjoyable read-aloud for K-2 level students, or an informative read-alone book for older kids or early readers.

Fossils for Primary Learners
My son and I enjoyed this book and used it to add to our study of fossils. The book was easy to understand the artwork was engaging. I recomend this book for primary grades 1-3.

Great for teenagers and adults
I ordered this as a gift for my 12 year old who wants to be a palenintologist (I know I spelled that wrong.) It is a great sets, and very interesting, but VERY fragile. Two of the pieces were broken in shipping. He broke another just looking at it (not playing around, being careful.) Basically it will get the mind going and easily spark interest in anyone that has the slightest idea of what these artifacts are, but it is incredible fragile and should probably not be handled, just looked at.

Excellent Pictures and Descriptions
As with the other "Eyewitness" books published by DK Publishing, this one is right on the mark for a beginner and seasoned fossil collector with pictures and descriptions that correllate very well with each other. Includes information of most all common fossils and a few of harder to find fossils. Not for researching significant hard-to-find or rare fossils. Worth the price and is also available in paperback binding.

10 year-old loved it.
I purchased this book for my niece's 10th birthday. She loved it but had already received one just like it. She couldn't stop talking about how great it was and was looking at the list on the back of other books in the series that she could get in exchange for this. Perfect for the kid who is interested in science and the outdoors.

Excellent Educationl Text
I'm a teacher and I find the Eyewitness books highly educational. I like the way the concepts are presented in a form without backgrounds. This gives clear facts to the reader without over taxing the attention span. The books are highly informative, presenting difficult concepts in comprehendable chunks that stimulate interest. I have almost the whole collection for my own children and they LOVE them!

Neat!
... at least, that's what the eight-year-old me would have said.My little brother is in elementary school, and he's currently experiencing the same "rock collection" phase I went through at his age. Since it's a more productive and educational interest than cartoons or robots that turn into cars (or cartoons about robots that turn into cars), it's an interest I'm trying to nurture.This is a small collection, but it makes a nice beginner's kit for fossil identification. The specimens are conveniently sized, well-defined (no odd bits or obscure fragments), and easy to identify using the chart included. Being so basic, this probably wouldn't make a good stand alone birthday or holiday gift, but might go nicely with, say, a DVD or book about the prehistoric world.Fossilization, extinction, and "millions and millions of years" are hard concepts for children to understand, and fossils hold a certain air of mystique for fascinated children. Great info
We have all the books in this series and they are all great. They are best for young children - say under 9. They cover a lot of information but may not go into enough depth for older kids. They have great illustrations and are easy to read. We camp a lot and we keep the whole set in the camper. There are blank pages at the end for kids to write their "observations" down.
