The ONLY Game there is
I do not play board games, plain and simple. Boggle is the exception. I got hooked on it about 18 months ago. It is the most addictive game I've ever played. Its appeal crosses generations -- my 76-year-old father is its most ardent enthusiast. I like it because it keeps his mind sharp.My wife and I compete fiercely. We slightly modify the rules. For example,we allow two turns of the timer per board, allowing us more time to develop words. We say that the game is over after three boards; then we start a new game. This keeps it interesting if someone falls decisively behind. We also give two bonus points (13 in total) if someone develops a nine-letter word. (Play the game, see how difficult THAT is, then you'll see why we think it deserves a bonus.)I am fortunate to have found a VERY old Big Boggle game in my mother's basement. THE classic word game
Boggle is a great word game that is fun for the whole family in which players have three minutes to find as many connected words as they can in a 4x4 grid. It doesn't take long to play (only three minutes to be exact) and you don't need a lot of space to play it. It uses a lot of the same skills as scrabble, but unlike in scrabble you won't keep getting beaten every time by that brainy uncle who must have memorized the dictionary, because most of the words that can be found are only 3 or 4 letters long, and even younger kids have a fair chance to win(occasionally a very long word can be found however - my personal triumph was the 8-letter "nicotine"). Also, you WILL learn new words you never knew existed from this game when people guess them and make you look them up - crazy words like "hie" and "tat" and "coe". Overall a very fun game well worth buying, although I wish they still made the bigger version, because that one's a lot of fun too.

Perhaps the best fast-paced game ever invented!
Boggle is a fantastic game. It is most enjoyable and challenging when you play with others who are your intellectual peers. I love playing this with my brother (a lawyer), my dad (a geologist), my mom (who knows everything), and various and sundry other people. Turn the timer over and watch the pencils burn up the paper! Remember, you earn points only for words 3 letters long or longer, AND for words that no one else comes up with. A challenge? You bet!You can make all kinds of words from letter cubes that are adjacent to each other. It's also a great way to learn new words (mostly out of desperation). Truly Great Game
I love both games of strategy and word games. They are a great way to relax and socialize, allowing the competitive juices to flow a bit without really taking them seriously. Over the years our family has cycled through lots of games, each having their day in the sun. After all these years, however, the one that remains most frequently played is Boggle. There are several reasons for this:- Boggle can be played for a few quick rounds or for longer sessions [rarely more than 45 minutes at a time].- Players with different skill levels can thoroughly enjoy the same board/game. Naturally, a strong Boggler will like competing against another good player as it will help them both try harder and find more words and learn from each other, but you can play against a beginner and still enjoy finding lots of words yourself. Sometimes bigger IS better
Maybe it was nostalgia, but when Big Boggle showed up as a lightning deal this past Christmas, I just had to order it. I have to say that this newer version is better than the old one from my youth.The 5 by 5 grid enables you to make longer words than ever before. One of the letter cubes now has commonly used two letter combinations such as, Th, Qu, Er, and In. The blocks themselves are a good size and the font is crisp, large, and easy to read.Since you start with a larger board, you are supposed to find words that are at least 4 letters long. Since I play this with my children, I let the 8 year old find 3 letter words too, while the 11 year old has to find at least 4 letter words and I have to find at least 5 letter words. The 5 year old even gets in on the fun; he likes to spell out words on the grid when we aren't using the game.When I played as a child, I noticed that after a few rounds we kept using the same words over and over again...

Great, educational, fun game, but poor cover design
This is a great game, and I think it's a fun way to engage the kids in spelling and learning new words. Love the extra large letter grid to allow for more combinations and vocabulary possibilities. My only gripe is that I wish they made some way for the dome to latch to the bottom. It fits very loosely, and has accidentally fallen open several times during play. Chasing down 25 little cubes that have scattered all over the floor is an annoying and time-consuming task.

Big Boggle has been enjoyed for more than 30 years! Shake up the 25 letter cubes and try to spot as many words as you can. Good for developing literacy awareness
This game was recommended by my daughter's preschool teachers as a supplementary activity to help develop reading skills. I can appreciate its value in helping kids learn their letters, developing sight-reading skills, and even letter-sound correspondence. However, my 4-year-old daughter didn't find having to turn over the blocks repeatedly to find the letters a lot of fun. And a word of warning: some words can NOT be formed, because occasionally two letters needed to form a word are on the same block! I wish Hasbro would do something about this...

We all love Boggle Jr.!
My 3, 4, and 7 year olds all get good use out of this game in different ways. (Also our 1 year old helps by stacking up the cubes.) I would recommend it to any family with preschoolers up to early second grade (older kids play with the words always covered). My kids have been able to play it by themselves with very little teaching. Other reviewers have complained about Boggle Jr's lack of buzzers, music, timers, and competitiveness, as well as the fact that their kids actually had to look on the cubes for the letter they needed-- these are all plusses if you ask me! This game has promoted concentration and focus in my kids, and the sound of busy, thinking kids emanating from the dining room is far sweeter than electronic noises any day.

Not fun for family, limited as a learning tool
This is pretty much kid vs kid only. Adults cannot play along. You can make it into a solo game for one child, but its really more like flash cards for spelling if you do that.The product is basically a set of flash cards for spelling, with some letter cubes for the kids to spell out the words. The rules propose two games, which are basically see if the kids spells the word right, they get to keep the card if they do, first kid with 5 cards wins. Adults can pretend to play along if the child is younger and will "fall for it." It really works as a game only if there are two kids the same age playing.I don't know, but I can't see my daughter pulling this out when a friend comes over. Therefore, to the extent this is a set of flash cards for spelling, its kind of expensive for what it is.Don't get me wrong, you can definitely make it into a learning tool. Your call.

Great program for seniors
I have searched for a word program like this since I got my Fire for Christmas. What I wanted was this type of game without the stressful timed game. That is great for the young and "game" but for a older and slower person I needed the ability to make it last for days if I wanted to.I think everything about the options is perfect, I could not ask for a better game.

No good for actual playing
This is a fun toy to have on your desk at work but when it comes down to it the actual usefulness is lacking. As another reviewer stated the name Boggle is stamped into the top of the plastic casing making it impossible to see the words. While you can see through the sides its at a terrible angle.A few things could make this actually fun to play with. 1 - Remove the Boggle tag from the top and if you really need it on there place it on the plastic holder for the hourglass. 2 - Instead of a square casing make it a dome so it can easily be seen at any angle and you can sit around the break table and play with your co-workers.What it comes down to is this novelty item is more a novelty decoration than a usable product, unless you are just going to write with it. I recommend passing on this purchase and buying one of the others available; Etch-a-sketch, Connect four, even Yahtzee.They also did the same thing with the Boggle Keychain, in that item...
