I love it!
I'm not too familiar with music from the Middle East, but I chanced to download this CD because I love world music and it was free. So far it's been great, my favorite songs are Aam Bimzah Maak and Ayami Beek. Ayami Beek (for which my play count jumped faster than almost any other song I've had) is real upbeat with that great mysterious Arabic touch, an excellent form of music. I'm happy to get a chance to listen to Middle Eastern music and pick up some great artists!I recommend giving it a try.

Love it
I like most of these songs but my absolute favorite has to be Ayami Beek (Wana A'dar) by Elissa. I also really liked Baada Aal Bal by Fadl Shaker and Sowar (Pictures)by Kadim Al Sahir. Definitely worth downloading.

Absolutely breathtaking!
If you are looking to relax while listening to some GREAT soft exotic songs, buy this album. It takes you to a musical trip to the near east, you can almost see the Oasis images, arabesque ladies dancing in the room and beduines singing in the desert. Simply AWESOME!

Private Beach Club II
Steve Miller (Afterlife) returns once more to compile the second volume of "Private Beach Club". This installment is definitely a step up from the first, which more up-beat than what I imagined it too be. This volume resonates with a "warm" sound that would compliment any summer day or night, rain or shine. Like the first volume, this compilation is divided into two discs, CD1 Private Beach Bar and CD2 Members Club Bar. The first disc is more the more laid back of the pair, but not by much though; I would not define these tracks to be downbeat, but they are definitely lounge, like something you would find on Hed Kandi's "Serve Chilled" compilations. The second disc features more of an upbeat sound, something like what is offered by the defected music label or what is found on the bargrooves "Summer Sessions" compilations.Since summer is not yet over, I cannot find a reason why you should not buy this, it was after all compiled by Afterlife himself, Steve Miller. He does indeed...

Mid-Eastern Dance Beats!
This CD focuses on dancey and pop styles from various Middle Eastern and North African musicians, and I was pleasantly surprised by the sheer diversity I found on this CD. Egyptian pop music is placed side by sid with Algerian Rai and even more exotic styles. It is truely an excellent CD, especially if you are already familar with Cairo pop music or Algerian Rai. The music on this CD is incredibly modern and dancable.Big names, sch as Hamid el-Shaeri, Amr Diab, Natacha Atlas, Dania and the like make some excellent contributions to this CD. Hamid el-Shaeri's song alone is worth buying this CD for, and Natacha Atlas outdoes herself on Kidda. And thats not even getting into the incredibly beautiful remixes of Sawt el-Atlas and Dania. And, of course, theres also some Algerian Rai music on this CD, though not as much as one would expect. Khaled, the King of Rai himself, presents a excellent track, "Mauvais Sang", which is particularly moving. Theres also a track by...

For beginners who want to explore Middle Eastern music.
Arabic Groove is a great compilation to start you off into the wonderful and exotic world of Middle Eastern infused dance, electronica, downtempo and chill out. Putumayo World Music released this collection back in 2001 but I think it's still quite fresh for someone who recently discovered the intoxicating Middle Eastern beats probably on a Buddha Bar CD or on another similar collection. The cool thing about the CD is that the artists are listed with their respective countries beside them so you can tell what's what and where each artist hails from. The last track by Cheb Tarik called L'histoire is a an awesome disco/rai fusion of a song. Very catchy and great to dance to. It samples an old Kool & The Gang track which I can't quite figure out but it's very fun! Other songs on this CD include Amarain by Amr Diab. A fun tune that has been featured in Buddha Bar and countless other rip offs as well. There's Natacha Atlas from Transglobal Underground a great band from the UK from the...

So FUNky!
This is a fun, funky, totally danceable CD. I love it and have had it in my CD player since it arrived. Some of the tunes I was already familiar with, such as Amr Diab's Amarain, and Natacha Atlas' Kidda. There are artists here that are new to me, and I'm looking forward to discovering their releases. My favorite tracks on Arabic Groove are Galbi, which has a driving back beat and a hip hop feel, and Heli Meli, a song that incorporates traditional rhythms and instruments, as well as some traditional sounding backing vocals by female singers. The packaging is great, with photos, lengthy bios and descriptions of the songs. These things, along with some English translation of the lyrics, help me to decide if a piece is appropriate to bellydance to. While this CD can skip from one track to the next just like a regular CD, when played straight through, there are no breaks because each song flows into the one following. It's perfect party music, put it in the player and let it...

More Cool Arabic-Tinged Coffee House Grooves
Following hot on the trail of 'Rough Guide to North African Cafe,' this album continues Rough Guide's move towards themed or mood CDs (as opposed to their earlier releases which tended to cover specific geographic regions). This time around, we're treated to a broader sweeping coverage of the modern Arabic and Arabic-fusion music scene, transporting you to smoke-filled coffee houses in Cairo and Damascus, cutting edge night clubs in Dubai and Beirut, and the bustling streets of Jerusalem, Marrkech and Baghdad. So what sets this CD apart from the dozens of other 'Arabic lounge' type albums out there, some of which are indeed pretty good? Well the selections for one. Rough Guide compilations tend to feature outstanding selections, living up to their name, and this particular release is no exception. The old guard of Arabic music appears alongside cutting edge new artists, all of whom you'll be fascinated to search for more releases from. Not only that, but they tend to emphasize local...

Couldn't find the MP3 download
This was my first attempt at a 'free' MP3 download. I couldn't find it to play back. My fault in some way. If I could find it on my lap, I would listen to it.

Having a passion for music, he might then have been expected to mine his personal heritage for influences, but he says ‘I never really got into much of this music, other than my father playing some Arabic music around the house once in a while. Stomping, yowling and hiccupping with all the raw ferociousness of the blues, Hanni El Khatib describes his music as ‘knife-fight music for anyone who’s ever been shot or hit by a train. ’ He describes his childhood as somewhat typical for ‘a kid born and raised in San Francisco’ – skateboarding the city’s hilly terrain, watching cartoons and making music. He also notes that he grew up with pianos and guitars around the house, and has always been interested in music and sound. It’s definitely a different experience than the recorded music. ‘Shortly after recording I started performing my music live, and haven’t stopped since,’ he remembers. ‘I was the type of kid that’d lock myself up in a room and mess around with music all day. ‘We like to play noisy rock music and we have a fun time every show,’ he adds. ‘I think that just the simplicity and iconic nature of that area is what has inspired and informed my music. With the exception of the lyrics on his covers – Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel is reimagined as a mournful folk-inflected lurker – he writes all the words and music himself. In his early 20s, Khatib began experimenting and recording at home, but it wasn’t until four years ago that he really started to write and record his own songs.
