Smooth and Impressive
It took me awhile to decide on this Braun after all I've never paid this much for a shaver. However, I had a problem getting parts for my old Remington so decided to bite the bullet. The unit arrived nicely boxed with a semi-hard black zippered travel case which is not mentioned in the literature. It uses the same power cord for rechargeable and corded operation. The shaver feels comfortable and solid in the hand and looks nice. I like the trimmer and flexible head. I find setting the sensitivity of the head to medium works best especially in the neck area. When not in use, the shaver sits in the cleaning station which also acts as a charger. At night, the cleaning station gives off a small blue light which is nice should you have to find the unit without turning on the lights. I've had the unit a few weeks and so far, I love it.Why? Great shave, but a few flaws
I've been a Braun guy since I started shaving, so this is my 4th or 5th one. After my last one, which was a low-end disappointment, this one is great -- as smooth of a shave as I believe you can get from an electric. Another plus is that this shaver is made in Germany, not China like their low-end ones, and although a little pricey, after a $50 promo certificate, it essentially put the price within reason.My only negative comments, after owning the razor for about two weeks, is that the clean-and-renew system is a little gimmicky. Not the system itself so much, which works great, but two things about the system:* The cleaning base is essentially a really cheap looking injection-molded piece of plastic. It gets the job done, but I think the designers could have done a better job of fabricating a base that was a little more in fitting with the price/look of the razor itself.* As others have said, the clean and renew fluid is kind of a ripoff -- if you... Where's the travel case?
I've been using Braun shavers for about 15 years. I started using my dad's when I was in high school, bought my own eventually, and have probably owned four or five of them. A few years back, I decided to give Norelco a try and bought the wet/dry model that dispenses Nivea lotion... terrible mistake. I'm a pretty skinny guy with a large-ish adams apple. The big, flat Norelco-style shavers just can't shave my neck. Braun's bar-shaped shaver head is the only one that works for me. If you have a face like Fred Flintstone, I suppose Norelco might do.In any case, if you're familiar with the Braun family, this shouldn't disappoint. The actual shaver mechanism -- the cutterblock and curved foil that contact your skin -- hasn't changed much in the last five years or so. I think they've advanced the actual shaver design as far as it can go and it's just a matter of adding bells and whistles like LEDs and charge indicators and such. Improvements make Braun Series 5 even better.
I've used Braun shavers for about 20 years (my first was a System 1-2-3). I've had several different ones since, ending up with a first-generation Series 7 Pulsonic. I was never convinced the Pulsonic was as good as the Activator it replaced. Maybe a year and a half ago, I started getting bad skin irritation on my neck after I shaved. I've tried several different things with varying degrees of success. And I'm using Nivea For Men Q10 face lotion moisturizer which has made a big difference.-A Philips-Norelco travel shaver I own showed promise, so I tried the Arcitec with lousy results and returned it to Philips.-The Philips-Nivea for Men shaver works really, really well, but I didn't like shaving in the shower and it took too long to shave in the morning. Also, no way you can use it dry in the car if you're running late.-Back to Braun. I picked up a MobileShave M60-B last Christmas at Wal-Mart for about $15. Much Improved
I had two (and still have one) of the older model Braun shavers. The base used for charging and cleaning failed to close or latch after several years of use. The Shaver is slightly better. The base is the HUGH improvement because you just drop it in the the base. No arm to close or break! Break is too harsh they just stopped latching (both of my original based stop latching) and it still worked so long as I held it closed. By the way I did and you can purchase a replacement base (which is why I still have one of the old style Braun units)from Amazon. The cleaning cartridges are exactly the same and Amazon sells them as well! All that being said I guess you can tell I LOVE my Braun shavers because I purchased a third one!!Happy Day! Good shave, great cleaning base, but not the best
The Series 5 is a re-design of Braun's popular 360 Complete. It uses the same cutter, so the shave is the same as the 360. The differences are in the overall shape - Braun has done a great job with the re-design. The shaver is easier to grip and has the same basic form factor as the top of the line Braun Series 7 (Pulsonic). Unlike the 360 Compete, the Series 5 is washable under the tap. It's NOT submersible or a wet shaver, but you can safely use water to clean it.This model lacks the pulsating action of the Pulsonic, but don't let that stop you from buying it. I've used the Pulsonic and, on my face, the Series 5 does as good of a job in most spots, and a wee bit better on the neck. I also find the "push up" format for the sideburn trimmer to be better/easier to use than the "flip out" format on the Pulsonic.The best part of any Braun shaver is the cleaning system. Nice but not great
I have used a Braun razor for as long as I can remember. Bought the 5 series as a replacement for my 7680, which needed to say goodbye as the side trimmer broke on it. My main reason for buying the 5 series over all others was for the side trimmer. This is the most vital part of a razor for me. The trimmer is a good improvement over the previous razors, as it slides up differently, though feels more plasticy. Most reviews do not talk about the trimmers, but I feel this is the best side trimmer I have used on a razor. It is a 90 degree angle, unlike others that use a 45 degree angle. This Braun performs similar to every other Braun I have had. The new shape takes some getting use to, but once that happens, you are good to go. It has a nice grip to it and you are less likely to drop it by mistake (you know those kind of mornings). Takes some getting used to
I'm coming to the 570cc from the Braun 7000 series which was effective but I always wished the grip was better. The 570cc appeared to solve that problem with the ruberized grip. Upon using it, however, I find that the benefits of the 570cc textured grip are countered by the angled head. I expect that in time I'll adjust but after the linear 7526 model I'm finding it difficult to get comfortable using this 570cc.The shave is close and comfortable, effortless it seems. Better than the 7526.The noise is slightly louder than the 7526 model, still not a problem though.The sideburn trimmer is seperate from the foil and easy to deploy and use.The cleaning device is perfect. Greatly improved from the 7000 series and gone is the sliding post which was prone to breaking.I do wish the electrical cord had not changed so that I might be able to use my previous models as a backup.It doesn't come with a plastic protective cover on the foil, as my previous model... Exact replacement for Braun 360 Complete shavers
I see bad reviews about this replacement foil here on Amazon and almost decided against buying it. The problem appears to be that this is actually the replacement foil and cutter block for the Braun 360 complete series shavers, specifically the 89** series. This series along with the Braun Activator has now been discontinued. I have the Braun 360 Complete 8985 shaver. If someone can recall the Braun 360 was a minor upgrade to the Braun Activator line of shavers. The upgrade was in the foil and the cutter block assembly only. According to Braun, the newer cutter block and foil were better at cutting than the previous Activator series cutter block. Also the newer cutter block fit both Braun 360 complete as well as Braun Activator shavers.Braun has now discontinued the individual cutter blocks for these shavers and now they offer only the Braun Series 5 Combi 51S for both shavers.
